For the girls Laura Roxberg will be back in her senior year of track...she is truly phenomenal for what she has been able to accomplish in kansas...she was the first girl EVER this fall to capture 4 consecutive Kansas class 6A XC state championships. Since her freshman year she has also taken EVERY 800m and 1600m track title in the state....she now has 10 state championships and there is a talk she might add the 3200m this year !
kid from Turner High, who just signed with Pittsburg State.

9) Kent McDonald - someone gave a fast time for him from Cresent City Classic (would like to confirm) did find a blazing 9K for him in 25:43 Jackson Mi
That 9k was probably Jackson Day, one of the oldest races in the nation. Here in New Orleans. And he ran 28:3x for 10k at Crescent City Classic. He was one of the leaders of the Tchoupitoulas Social Aid and Athletic Club back in the day. From what I've been told, was a good influence on a lot of runners in the city. I think he wound up doing an IronMan at some point and now lives some place in the midwest -- maybe back in Kansas? Not 100% sure. He's been in town to visit a few times. He's a legend in the city, and from what I understand, it's all positive stuff.
He lives in his hometown of Lawrence and has for many years...
I coached his son Ian several years ago...one really nice guy and great family...and obviously a talented runner in his day...
I read on another thread that you are NOT coaching at UMKC anymore? What's the story and what are you going to do?
I will be in Kansas City for a business meeting the Thur and Fri leading up to KU Relays weekend. I am thinking of staying over and going to the meet Friday pm and all day Saturday. I asked a business associate in KC about it and he said something about trying to buy a golden section pass, but he didn't know any details. Does anybody there in town know if any Gold Tickets are still available and what schools and pro runners will be there this year? thanks in advance for any info.
Matt French, hall of fame distance athlete at KU for damn sure.
sorry; but I got the last golden ticket to the Kansas Relays. I'll get you a t-shirt.
Tim Gundy ran 3:43 and change for 1500, I think that he's still on the all time top 5 list at KU, his mile PR is something like 4:00.2.
Hey, Charlie; I hear that they are having the kind of crappy weather this year that we got in 1972. If it wasn't cold, it was raining. If it wasn't raining it was always windy. Terry C. told me this year reminds him of '72, all over again. (it was his senior year too, over at Truman High). How's the masters career going? One more year to hit the next age bracket; 55-60; or is it all 50-60?
I just moved to Kansas, so wouldn't know what '72 was like, but I hope this is abnormal. You're right, it has been either windy, cold, or rainy all year. This past few days someone actually turned off the wind machine, but it rained during the nights, so the ground is sloppy. I'm glad to hear this is odd weather, as I was wondering what I got myself into.
yeah, this has been a crappy spring. I was hoping to bust some times that might get me at least some partial aid for track but I can't catch a break to go for a good time yet. I'm a senior and time is running out!
hey don't worry.... KS weather will come around! the pretty days are up ahead!!
everything is so green right now though, it's beautiful!
I LOVE KC :)
i hear ya! over here on the missouri side of kc, things are no better than the kansas side. its hard to get psyched to go for a pr with a 18 mph wind at most meets this spring.
it hasn't exactly been a picnic here in Iowa either.
It's definitely green right now. Wish me luck, I'm going out for a run with the "Tornado Watch Warning" flying by on the bottom of my tv screen for Johnson County. Could be interesting.

College coaches realize this. This is where head to head wins come into play. So when the weather is crappy, don't let it be an excuse to run crappy. If guy A has run 9:40 & you've only run 9:54, but you've beat him 5 times out of 5, then I'd rather have you.
