Honestly if you have trouble sleeping at night it could mean that you are overtraining a little bit for where your fitness level is at.

Henry,
I have an idea of what you're going through...I truly do...hang in, it will pass because of your tremendeous fighting spirit along with your sense of mission.
When I first started back running, I too, ran an ever so slow paced runs, (it's ALL I could do) only to have the after effects feel liked I raced. Many times I had to use all fours to crawl up the stairs, collapse on the bed...Ah! But only to get back up after, a, what you call a cat nap...I call a dead coma sleep!!! I would go back out and do it again.
I've had to deal with the reality of not only having so much time away from running (about 20 years since my last marathon) I've had to deal with an aging body to call upon to do a mighty feat.... go run.
But as you are reminding me...ah, the mind is wonderous for remembering the good times. They uplift me to think anything is possible and that the fear of not trying propells me out the door.
I commend you Henry, for I do know, it's not an easy task at hand. With your endurable perserverance and sense of mission along with your fighting spirit...I'm on edge of wanting to see when it all happens for you.
You will live through all the sputterings. I can tell you afterwards..the sputterings will get less, as you feel your body/mind/spirit get stronger with time.
Take more rest and keep it going. Sleep. .
I've throughly enjoyed reading about your progress, it encourages me!!!
God bless your efforts, God bless you!!
In Joy,
Patti

To patti,
How runners get injured? Give five reason or principles of injures. Is it due to training all day or something else?
Henry
To try this one out,
I don't have any problem sleeping at night.

Great stuff, Henry.
Henry, why runners get injuried you asked!!? Hmm, well, other than the unforseen accidents..I think, overuse..overtraining...just simply too much and too much too soon. But there lies the problem...what is too much? Sometimes you don't know until...you're there on the injuried list. When I first started back I had lots of setbacks. My hips were sore, my feet hurt, my arches ached. My arms were heavy, I had forgotten how heavy your arms can be when they don't pump...My back ached. All in time things gradually got better, like you I had to slug my way through. It the only way to get to the other side of things...go through the gaunlet.
I have learned to listen to the masters and have taken notice that they say. More rest is needed between hard workouts. What ever is hard at times is difficult to determine at the beginning of things because everything is a challenge. So, I think trying to go a tad easier Henry may give you rewards a couple of days later. I understand about running long yet slow, but after being away for a lenghty period, I found this to be hard. I did back off and did reap in rewards. I was less exhausted, therefore, I was actually getting stronger in other areas.
As one who simply runs as your feel, then I would think injuries wouldn't be as frequent. But as one who pushes and pushes, will then, welcome to "Over Did It City." It is one of my personal dilemma's. I have learned though to respect my age, (just a little) and my coaches input.
The key, I think Henry, is to be able to maintain the enjoyment. I don't like dragging myself through a run. I like to simply run and not run tired. To me nothing is better than a zippy 20 miler.
I rest, I make sure I have good nutrition, and to keep a good attitude going. I have found that the encouragement I have received from other runners through running chat rooms like letsrun has helped me enormously.
I don't like to say the word moderation, in essence it is a very good word. So, I guess, running and not running dog tired is running in moderation.

Hey Henry! I'm still enjoying the thread immensely. But the many inexplicable deletions took the wind out of my sails. :)
I think I will be ridiculed for not knowing who Patti is? :)
Lately Henry, I am not running, getting fat, feeling sorry for myself. But this thread is so very inspiring, just like 1978! When I get over my plantar issues, I will keep re-reading this thread for inspiration.
Perhaps later on we can talk more about newest training methods in the world, regional dominance, and the future of distance running.
Yes, quite normal in the warm summer weather. It is a regular phenomenon for me.
To Patti,
You have a very good heart. You really trying you best to explain the entire sysytem of how injures occurs right. But You miss to answered my questions.
What do I'm searching for? WR in a mile for master rught.
How do you get to that WR master?
What do I need?
Patti you didn't show how I can break the world record?
All you did was explaining what might occur if this and that?
And my mom could son stay at home and don't try to think about WR son.Because you may get hurt!!!!!OH!!! my kid
please,please don't hurt my kid.
Henry
To Skuj,
You are truly welcome you to watch and read,I'm very glad I can write and you can understand my words;however, sometimes some of my phrases are too shiffy due my ESL.But I'm enjoying you guys and you tell.I love to talk about my progress the same way when I was in WSU.The only people could hear me those days were my surroundings but I told I don't want the media and JOHN CHAPLIN got that taken care of.
But now I want every one me and we all walk together by holding hands and walk forward right.
The world record will come truely. No rabbiting now and I never have one.
By the way the other when I was looking for my pictures I ended up finding the journalist who took pictures 1978 when were running in snake riiver and he told Henry You may had many world records broken lately but gues what? They have not come close to you. They agree with John chaplin

Henry, I'm not a world masters record holder. (yet) If/when I become one, I will surely tell you how it can be done. But you may already know before I'll be able to.
Henry hello today :o) It was lovely here in upstate New York today and I managed a 7 mile run where I was fortunate to see a fleet footed deer up close, and as it galloped away I tried to imagine being that graceful with running. Later I hopped on the bike and again I was blessed to see another deer up close and then leaping away across a field... Do you ever get on a bike to work different muscles? I was just curious? As for world records Henry, they have to be in your mind and heart before they can happen, FAITH is the key to me, it is the substance of things hoped for and yet not seen. Each day is another (literal) step in the journey. I so appreciate the out-pouring of support I read on this thread, for you and for one another, especially some of us older Masters types! Glad to see Patti sharing her thoughts and wisdom with us all too and I am grateful for the input and ideas put forth since you came on here and posted. I wish you a great rest of the day, good rest and a healthy tomorrow.....

Gotta love it when two former world record holders are going back and forth about how to break yet another world record.
1st, I'm post #400
2nd, I can't believe Patti doesn't have a wikipedia article. Henry's is below. The wiki people on this site need to fix that.
Hey Carnivore 69, how are you?
Oh dear me...oh dear all this talk of world records.
It truly is funny how the mind works. I absolutely THINK/thought, I can/could do one..but 0 what a surprise...it's hard, at least for me.
I'm back to the drawing board, so to speak and doing first things first..build a strong base, not forcing it. Second, I start training from the base I've built and see what it reaps..then begin again...hmm, nice cycle.
I've been having one set back after another, other than the "normal" aches and pains I've had Lyme diease, (lost about 4 months) fell and cracked my tailbone...again in December, no less. Only this time not so bad. I started running in February...and I've been running and gathering strength ever since. My patience (the little I have) is finally taking hold. I'm not forcing as much, as I'm developing and letting it evolve naturally. (about time) Ya'know I thought I'd out just go out and do it, ya'know? How brazen of me, LOL!! Nada, not to be. I have had to begin on sub basement level.
It took me a long time to get this far...I'm SOOOOoooo glad and forever thankful I hung in...I mean I FEEL! WONDERFUL! Like hmm, oh sure records are nice...but I sure appreciate a good run..ya'know? They are NICE and I'm having quite a few of them now more frequently, which I find very encouraging...Henry will have them too, and oh the dreams, the dreams and hopes just flurry out. But then again, it's almost a moot point because the way I see it, good runs are great in my book. "Zippidity do daw, zippidity day ..." But when you set a world record, everybody knows you had a "good" run!! LOL!!
Listening to Henry is very encouraging to me. The desires to do your best never dies...only the will to do it. Henry has the will..BIG TIME!!
I'm so inspired by you Henry, just the fact you are putting it out there and going for it!! Yahooo!!! GGRRR!
....and then I'll be able to figure out who Patti is! (Insert embarrassed icon here.)
Hey patti, long time no talk!
And Skuj, I'll let you in on her identity...
Lyons-Catalano-Dillon. She was a stud back in the day and has resurfaced as one of LetsRun's celebrities. The Dillon part of her name goes along with Dan, who was a stud back in the day as well. I have a great photo of him from the 1979/80 world xc trials race at LCC in Eugene. That was the coldest day for me as a spectator, becasue I lloked outside and saw the sunshine (a rare occurence in Eugene during the winter) and I underdressed for the day. I remember my hands clinging to my metal bodied camera snapping away as Virgin, MacDonald, Dillon, Arbogast... ran over hay bales around the ponds.
