yup. both of them just take cali talent and then we never hear from them again.
Seemed like Cal Poly was on the upswing for a while. I really don’t know what happened? Was it really just Vanhoy?
They had great momentum until Vanhoy came in and trashed the culture, fired all the staff to put his buddies in, and ran all the runners into the ground (or body shamed them off the team)
I mean Caudilo, McCarthy, C. Smith, Pickren, and Westwood have been on a tear. McCarthy ran 15:25 as a senior at Woodward Park and only ran like low 4:20s and 9:30s before going to Cal Poly and now runs consistent sub 4 miles. You can say the same about Westwood who only ran low 15:40s and barely going sub 4:20 his senior year and now also runs sub 4s. Caudilo, C. Smith, and Pickren were already legit prior to SLO but they’ve only managed to get better. And same for the girls team. I’m just saying… SLO does know how to develop their talent.
I’m looking at the meet info of this year’s Clovis invitational… wtf is a Division 6? Are we suddenly just adding a new division out of nowhere?
Clovis invitational has the ability to do what the State meet refuses to do and that's make the school sizes in each division more equal. They take all the teams in, get their enrollments and then make the divisions. The State does this at the Section level but not the State level. So you have have huge schools from Southern CA competing against much smaller schools from other divisions providing a huge advantage. This is why Clovis has different divisions then State.

They got a lot better but the coaching got a lot worse? Not usually how it works but thanks for the update former coach.
Anyways, what matters is NXN 2024. This is what the committee will be focusing on when giving out at-larges. They won't be paying attention to races like woodbridge or clovis. They may look at teams that race out of region but they most definitely don't factor in 'these rankings.'
Jesuit at 3 is insane coming from an SJS guy😭. Was not expecting to see Campolindo or San Clemente mentioned (yes I do know Campolindo and San Clemente have serious potential)
milesplit is really going downhill. Beckman, the d1 champs for the whole state that returns a ton of talent, isn't the favorite for d1 in the southern section? Mira Costa is good, but the only thing they have on Beckman is 1600 times. And in d2, they didn't even include Woodbridge in their top 3 teams. La serna, dos pueblos, and saugus are good teams with good times, but Woodbridge's returning 3200m times are a cut above and they will have to have a bad day at CIF finals to lose to them. Milesplit is focusing too much on 1600m times for an aerobic event.

In the D4, One important thing that wasn’t mentioned when talking about Palos Verdes is that transfer Sigworth (4:11 / 9:16) came in. Palos Verdes will be pushing JSerra more than people think they will
I checked last year's times and they were actually much faster that year and that year they were 11th. Doesn't really mean much but all these rankings from tully, dyestat, runner central are glazing way too hard.
Regarding california teams competing at woodbridge:
California has 5 teams with the potential of competing with the out of state teams. Jesuit, Beckman, Mira Costa, Mountain View and Vacaville.
The best bets are Mira Costa and Mountain View. They are more experienced and have performed well on this course in 2024.
I think Jesuit would get humbled here. But that mostly because their guys are coming back from injuries. That is just what sjsglazer was always saying on these threads.
Vacaville is too new and inexperienced. Their runners are young so they will be more dangerous at the end of the season. Same thing happened with Jesuit in 2024.
Herriman, Bridgeland, Southlake Carroll, Jesuit LA, CDA, Crater will most likely come out on top. Those programs have the best coaches and talent in the nation.
Southlake Carroll and Jesuit LA aren’t racing at Woodbridge this year
