It isn't incredibly more difficult to use drugs than in former decades. Drug use is more sophisticated than antidoping, it is always ahead - and this from the former head of WADA. Doping is like the shoes, but advancing more continuously and is way more scientifically advanced. There are few variations in the supershoes but the estimated illicit drugs available are over hundred at any one time and most are undetectable. If it were not so sports doping wouldn't be the billion dollar black market it has been reliably estimated to be.
Valerie Adams may well have been one of the few top athletes that chose not to go down that path - or she would have likely been the world record holder, like Crouser, who I wouldn't put money on being clean.

Look at her 5k times and look a the pace she ran at Chicago. 3:05 ks at Chicago, wiki has her 5k pb at 15:26 from 2022. If that kinda of improvement isn’t drugs then whose is her coach and what’s he preaching!?!?
Cheat-shoes have ruined the sport. PEDs were already rampant. But no, we needed something equivalent but legal. Queue cheat-shoes. Now everyone is special. Basically the equivalent of pro baseball allowing composite bats and then everyone wondering how all the records got demolished. This is the current state of running.

I'm convinced that Chepngetich's 2:09 = Paula's 2:15 adjusted for SuperShoes. Paula's 2:!5 was such an outlier for so long that others struggled to get within 2 minutes of it. So if you believe one is/was on PEDs, then naturally it stands to reason that the other is/was. Conversely if you believe one is/was clean, then it stands to reason that the other is/was as well. Question is whether Ruth's 2:09 is a one-off outlier or if (a) she'll be able to repeat it, and (b) whether we'll have a flood of similar performances from other athletes.
My take: they're both probably pharmaceutically enhanced performances.

The discussion should not be if she is taking drugs, but what drugs is she (and Korir) taking? How is she (and Korir) the only one to have access to it? Seems random.
She is 6 minutes faster than anybody this year. Does she have her own private lab in her basement?
She is probably on the same stuff than Pogacar. Him, you kind of understand why he is on special stuff. He has a team around him…. Why Ruth? How did she get it? How fast will the WR be when everybody has access to it? What is it?

Hmmmmm I'm a little unsure about Paula although I'm on the side that says she is clean because well she is BRITISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the British European moral ideal!!!!!!!!! British runners have a way too consecrated tradition and ritual with long distance running and Christianity together integrated to be doping you feeling me sir????????????????? You may be right. I thought the super shoe effect for elite marathoners was "only" 2-3 minutes. Is it possible the effect could be 5+ minutes for super responders? Ruth ran 5 minutes and 29 seconds faster than Paula. Interestingly, the men's world record at the time when Paula ran 2:15 was Khalid Khannouchi's 2:05:38, and that WR is now 5:03 faster.

She may very well be doping, but she ran 2:17 in 2019 and 64:02 in 2021. To pretend she’s suddenly ascended from a 15:26 runner in 2022 (the same year she ran 2:14 in Chicago) is ridiculous. There are plenty of good reasons this performance is likely due to doping, but a random altitude 5000 is not one of them.

Right... Khannouchi lived on a diet of mcds, coke, and donuts and ran crazy splits..... Only thing that may have improved that much is the drugs
