looks like at least one wonky USA handoff, where were they in the zone?
All were bad but probably clean. Late takeoff on both exchange 1 and 2, indicative of not being coached and not getting the steps right. Exchange 3 takeoff was fine but stick passing technique all wrong. Again, these guys just aren’t being coached
well someone's scrutinizing the video right now, so no point taking it for granted
That was a sweet run by team USA! SCR and Lyles dominate the meet!!! (and Faith).
SCR is the feel good story of the year. Total public transformation from disgruntled and self centered disappointment to a gracious teammate, competitor and dominant athlete.
I hate how the announcers framed these USA relay wins in terms of what they mean for Paris. World championship wins are great accomplishments in and of themselves.
Can I just go on record and say I was so happy for Marco Arop to the point of almost rooting for him against the Kenyan. I’m an equity guy and, in my mind, 19-year-olds have no business winning world titles. You’ll get plenty of chances, kid. Would be a shame for guys like Arop and Kinyamal to end their careers with no titles.
And the Kenyan 800 guys all seem to love Marco.

Congrats to the US relay-ers, but I can't help but observe, it looked to me like ONE out of our six passes was reasonably competent --and that is truly f***ing *pathetic*.
Both teams were lucky to get it around. If you re-ran both those races 10 times, we're probably DQ'd on about a third of them.
And now, of course, since they managed to win both races anyway, they'll just ignore the problem again, and we'll probably crap out on the big stage next year.
USATF should be burned to the ground. Start over from scratch.
The passing for both U.S. 400R teams was off. I just don't think they have enough time to practice. The solution is not easy when you consider the number of runners in the relay pools and the focus on individual events for some of them. Other nations have similar issues but less so because their relay pools are generally smaller and their best candidates can actually practice exchanges more frequently. Until the U.S. trials occur we don't even know who will make the final.

tough to match the speed and adrenaline of a race situation in practice. they can do better, but it's a lot harder than just counting steps at practice and running ONE race and nailing it. these guys are moving FAST
No it isn’t. There’s actually an adjustment you do for that. And it’s within such a small range that it should only affect the timing of the stick pass very slightly. And you have 20 meters to work with. Speed doesn’t matter as much as you think because at the time of the stick pass the runners should be approximately be marching speed if the coach measured correctly. It looks fast to a viewer but almost looks slow motion when you’re the one doing it. People that have actually run sprint relays will understand what I mean.
