Damn he almost wasn't even the first Norwegian, 0.03... Jakob just doesn't have a whole lot of speed and the rest of the world has been getting quicker over the 1500, he's always going to be at risk if the pace isn't brisk the whole way like Tokyo.
He lost because of being the pacemaker, not because he isn't fast enough. We all thought he had enough margin to solo run it but that wasn't the case.
Next time he will in 3:35 from the back
The 1500m is very unforgiving rarely has repeat champions 🏆
He has his 1
Please no more ingerbritsen excuses mans has lost ever which way at the championship 1500s
Is it possible that he was trying to win with less spending less energy in order to save for the 5k? If so that doesn't sound smart to me. He should have taken it out fast. Kerr can't run 3:27, but he has great speed.
Agreed, Nuguse ran a dumb race. Boxed in early, hovered in lane 2 once he got out, then moved back as soon as the kick started. Honestly I'm shocked he looked so clueless because he kicked well at USAs and generally has looked like a smart racer this year.
Jakob's breathing looked labored early. Maybe the dumb@ss final lap in the semi took a little out of him.
Yeah he ran like Asbel Kiprop in that semi, lol. He needs to get some tactics coaching from Bernard Lagat or Matt Centrowitz or something -- that ain't it.
No because Kiprop would have at least let someone else lead
Pretty harsh assessment of Jakob here. He paced the best 1500m runners in the world and only 1 of them was able to get around him at the end. It's not like he got swamped on the homestretch. He also made it a 3:29 race, do we really think he could have forced a 3:27 with no pacers? I think he's more suited for the 5k at championships than the 15.
Nuguse messed up the start, did well to fix it, and just didn't have the legs at the end. He'll be back.
It's distasteful how much joy many posters take here in the failure of an athlete.
LOL what? The guy brings it on himself completely; we're taking joy in seeing an arrogant little sh*t get his comeuppance, not in the failure of an athlete. If he stops with the trashy crap and shows his competitors just a little more respect, you can expect the Shadenfruede to diminish... until then, nope!
Nuguse had a disappointing result but he at least have himself a chance. I don’t understand these guys who go straight to the back and think they’ll make up any sort of significant ground in the final 400

You know, when a guy is running the heats and motioning to the audience instead of focusing on the race, and saying things like "I am the pace maker..." people just might root against him. Or at least not root for him.
Last year Jakob was pissed off about losing because he was convinced that he was the best on the day, but he chose the wrong tactics and lost.
Today was different.
In a post-race interview he said "today I wasn't the best".
There was another thread in which some Italian commentator was quoted as saying that JI has some bit of injury and might not run the 5000m. Perhaps he was right?
Jakob mentions in Norweigan media that he has a possible cold.

I disagree; given his showboating in the semi he sets himself up in a situation where only Gold is going to cut it. That's all on him.
