You take the point though? The purpose of affirmative action was to allow talented but underprivileged children/adults to level the playing field with admission. B-grade student in the worst high school in the country is more talented than an A-grade student at a private school.
Umm, just being able to read makes you a B student in a lot of city schools.
It makes you a A student at religious schools and home schooled freaks
Uh....standardized tests have zero bearing on if you will graduate and be successful. That is why many schools don't use it for admission, as they did long before the invention of the SAT and ACT
Wrong. I recently heard an MIT faculty member say 700 is the minimum SAT math score for undergraduate admission. He said student a with lower score tend to perform poorly.
And such standardized tests were instituted decades ago to combat favoritism based on race, ethnicity, or wealth.
Contrary to the lies of the left, SAT score is highly correlated with success in school and career. They're lying or too stupid when they say "oh he is just a bad test taker." You can't have a whole section of country who are brilliant but are extremely bad test taking. And even more unlikely that only in that sub section of people this confound exists. Everyone else who does bad on test are just morons.
Classic Thomas straw man. No one is claiming race is to blame for “everything”.. but Jackson eloquently presented real facts that Thomas hand waves away because of his own insecurities. the fact is people knew Clarence was an AA because he is pretty stupid
It's sadly fascinating to see so many (I'm unsure about the poster "Court Packer") calling for racial preferences while ridiculing those they claim it helps. How condescending can they get?
Wrong I’m not ridiculing “those”, I’m ridiculing Thomas.
The white-Asian gap is far less controversial than the black-white gap.
It’s also far less at all. There’s probably a few dozen Asians getting denied each year. Big deal .. the false equivalency put forth by this joke of a court is astounding
It's a big deal to them. And it's more than a few dozen. Hundreds per year at Harvard alone. Extend that to all colleges and universities practicing this nonsense over the last 40 years and you add up to a large group. But what does that matter? False equivalency to what?
See the controllers at these schools don't want to talk about legacy admissions because it mostly benefits coastal liberals themselves. I am 100% for banning it but I am sure my wish won't ring a bell on their door. Who do you think is in charge of running these schools? It's not some fat honcho white guys wearing red hats and smoking cigars you're thinking of. The real powers are the people like the parents of SBF.
Sounds like you understand that it is not a meritorious practice, which is what I was saying.
Yes to some degree but it's open to all races. Nobody is stopping me or you from abusing it.
Additionally, it pretty rich of Thomas, who is on the highest court in the land, to constantly claim that Affirmative Action somehow held him back in his professional career.

This compared to over 100 years and perhaps or hundreds of thousands of blacks. yeah totally the same.
Is there any better standardized indicator of merit than a test score?
I went to a Regents HS. Supposedly top 200 in the nation. A biggest joke. I was in all honors. I was literally in ESL class in junior high and they put in honors in English. Graduated with high As. Barely had to put in any school work. Not kidding. One honors teacher said if you don't disturb my class, you get 90. You raise your hand you get 99. Due to scheduling, I was in a regular non-honor class for one class. There are black kids who couldn't even read. They all graduated. This was decades ago. Another school right by old one. I happen to talk to their valedictorian kid recently while getting food. An Indian kid who is already doing research at a university. He said teachers were walking around giving out answers during regents exams. That is the truth. School grades and diplomas are not even worth the toilet paper they're printed on. And hence you see where abysmal SAT scores come from.

Legend has it that he gave a huge warm welcome hug to KB Jackson as he was tired of imagining himself as being seen for decades as the lone stupid black diversity hire.

You haven't read the opinion that you are criticizing. No one on the SCOTUS was making that equivalency. I don't even think advocates of these admission policies make that equivalency. I don't think you know what "false equivalency" means.
