Floberg with 2:38:38. Solid performance for a Chicago guy with few hills to train on.
I'm really not a fan of Floberg's videos, but he has to be one of the most impressive runner youtubers in terms of running improvement/success since becoming a running youtuber.
His videos I feel are the shoetube equivalent of Marvel movies (granted, I don't watch all of either). Consistent, well produced cinematography, editing, effects, sound, etc, that you would expect when a lot of money and movie making skill goes into a production, with consistent comedy that feels like it thinks its being witty that really isn't witty at all as it's just rehashed comedic style from what works well previously or in other movies/videos. Ultimately ends up feeling like you're actually getting less that what it feels is being put into it from a production standpoint, as nothing feels new, special, or quite frankly that interesting from a cinematic or narrative standpoint. Now from a pure money-making business standpoint, its definitely what works and its understandable they take this approach - create a repeatable franchise arc that people are going to want to keep watching as long as its consistent and feels like a lot of money went into it.
Seth actually tries to follow the rules. Generally he doesn't film much, if at all, during his races (unless he's blown up, and then he takes selfies of himself huffing and puffing on the side of the road or trail). He also hasn't run Boston last year, largely because he didn't have a qualifying time. He seems to want to register just like everyone else. (Seth might've been able to get into the American elite field this year, but that's just a reflection of how terrible that field is, but to my knowledge he didn't try). He does take the occasional free trip to launches but not as many as the rest.
He can be a little cringey in his videos but he's pretty responsible compared to the likes of Kofuzi and Believe in the Run.
Ethics from a guy who has put many lives in jeopardy from his ridiculous car stunts? A guy who could’ve killed himself by going into the mountains with no real mountaineering experience beyond running? Yeah the difference is Seth doesn’t have the personality to be like Kofuzi. If he did your damn right he’d do whatever it takes to make the money. Remember hawking tape and taking all the profits from a virtual race when there was no need for a virtual race?
Seth DeMoor is the Kenneth Copeland of the running world
How long before Matt Fox falls out with his new buddy Max Frankel?
He had a big fall out with Nick Bester, he made some allegations against Top4Running recently too. I'm not a betting man but I think another fall out in the next six months is a safe bet.
It's time to catch up with our favorite running YouTubers.
Spencer Brown, aka The Athlete Special aka the Local Legend, is continuing his weekly local 5k series. He ran a park run this week and ran a 16:40 on a long course. The videos seem to be doing pretty well view wise. It's about time that a running YouTuber made their channel about local 5ks and not big marathons!
Speaking of big marathons, Matt Choi thinks we should be impressed by his beer chugging 3:27 and plan to run London five days later. Through 35k, he's on pace for 3:19.
The Believe in the Run crew bored us for two hours with tales of Boston. Got to earn that influencer bib!
Speaking of influencer bibs, it appears that Michael Ko, aka Kofuzi, may not have a bib in London and may be bib muling. He doesn't show up in the tracker. And there was no shot of his bib on Instagram like in every other marathon he has ever run. Maybe he got tips on bib muling from Matt Choi, who he's running with these days:
It makes sense that Kofuzi would have a hard time finding a sponsor bib at London. TCS and BMW are the two sponsor brands that are least likely to allocate marketing resources to a running influencer. But to bib mule just because you're desperate to get a bib? Pathetic. If he did it, hopefully he gets banned from the other major marathons.
The original ShoeTuber, Seth DeMoor, is back from a hiatus. He apparently injured his eye and needs surgery on it. But in the interim, he's running in ski goggles.
And that's all the time I have for ShoeTubers this week. I have a local 8k to go run!
Search Michael Ko in the app, it doesn't show up. Please provide link to his Instagram post with his bib. All I see is him trying to hawk non-elite hats. And yeah, I believe this guy would do this. It's the same dude who recently posted a shoe review that raved about a Puma shoe on the first day of a Puma-paid trip to Jamaica and didn't disclose the travel in his review. Dude is arguably less ethical than Choi. Makes sense that those two are buds.

that's disappointing. I think Mike had a much faster race in him -- something must've gone wrong. As for Choi, I'm not sure what he was expecting 6 days after Boston?
