lol at thinking ANY track athlete outside BOLT is "lance level". even the great kipchoge.
lance was a household name. recognizable by almost every american.
Kipchoge could deliver UPS packages for 3 months in the usa before a single person would recognize him....maybe even longer.
Bolt is HUGE....but no other track athlete comes close at all. not felix, not mo farah (lol)
this 1000x.
cycling is a bigger sport than track, even with the Olympics; Lance is on worldwide television for three weeks straight during his Tour years + cancer + best-selling book, Livestrong (however much that was shield to his doping) etc etc...
what track athlete even comes close to his total cultural impact? Even Bolt is more akin a famous figure skater or swimmer, as his off-track relevance is minimal.

yeah but bolt did implant himself into the cultural psyche in 2008 especially. plus his damn last name is perfect!
bolt for awhile was maybe the most famous athlete PERIOD in the world.

You don't think Blaise Ferro is the most famous athlete in the world currently?
I've got to say Rupp has got to be the biggest, well-known American athlete in the UK amongst road runners.
His silver in 2012 with Mo.
His Rio bronze which was a beast of a run.
Marathon champs, this Olympic marathon, Chicago, even came over for Great North run the other year. He's well known, and I'd say liked.
I'm a running nerd and haven't heard of a single one of these track runners, it'd be like asking a Brit to name a single NFL player, I couldn't even name a team.
