All they need is one more and the top 5 gets its own coach

Wonder what would happen if it was 4 Throws or Jumps Coaches (1 for each very different event)? You only see this kind of stuff when head coaches have Distance backgrounds.

Another reason to institute cross country specific and track specific scholarships. We're all competing at different levels and playing different games.

That would be nice, but seeing how little the majority of Athletic Depts put into XC/TF, I don’t see it changing

I honestly frown upon this knowing that if you’re the real deal Holyfield you don’t need 3 assistants helping you.

You don't see throws or jumps head coaches do it because you can't win conference track meets that way. Admin typically cares more about overall team conference/national performance than they do about individual accolades.

Distance only programs can't win in track either, but you can be good in cross country and some administrations/coaches are OK with that.

I, like a lot of you, hate what Notre Dame is doing. There are mid major programs and a few other P5s that have been distance based/only for years. If coaches want this to change Cross Country need scholarship limitations . That is different than asking for XC only scholarships (not realistic); just a limitation on the number of scholarships that a school can compete in the fall.

Syracuse either won our came second in the ACC like 3 years ago.

You can definitely win indoor especially distance only

Syracuse has been 13-14 in the ACC for men & women the past 2 years. They depend on their hurdlers to score points. Notre Dame gets points from their women's multi's and throwers as well as their men's throwers. They used to have a male pole vaulter who would win each year.

When you only beat out a non-scholarship program in your conference meet, how does your end-of-year evaluation with your AD start?

The NCAA actually has a limit for cross country. Cross Country only programs are limited to 6 women's and 5 men's scholarships for the sport of cross country.

Unfortunately, there is a loophole that allows you to "sponsor track and field" and then spend those scholarships on cross country too.

My solution:

Cross country and indoor track align in the calendar like they do internationally, they happen simultaneously.

Our sport(s) becomes a 1 semester sport(s). No December indoor track meets.

Athletes can only be 2 sport athletes, not 3 sports. (xc/outdoor, or indoor/outdoor, but not all 3)

Make XC 8k for both men and women so it is for DISTANCE athletes and not middle distance athletes.

Give 5/6 XC scholarships. If you are on an xc scholarship you can run xc and outdoor. If you are on a track scholarship you can run indoor and outdoor.

Then XC championship are apples vs apples. I love Portland and BC and Providence and Furman, but do they really think they are playing the same game as Oregon , FSU and Texas at the cross country championhips? They are simply intentionally dismantling their track teams, while still "spononsoring track" for the purpose of supersizing their xc program. Its a loophole, and it needs to be fixed.

I saw the girl that got let go at UNLV recently got another position. Looking at UNLVs first meet result looks like who they brought in to replace her is doing a lot better. Cheerleading without challenging doesn’t equal great results!

no denying Angelina is on another level of crazy, but what makes you say they've improved in any capacity.? Their Varsity squad finished 4th in JV race behind a DII JV team and UCI JV (UCI not ranked in the West (probably 20th best team out west). Do not sell that crap here, head to another thread.
