Robert Young fakes run across America

Do UListers even put their PR's on their resume? How would they even do that since they measure their PR's with calendars instead of stopwatches?

Many of us put our PRs on the USATF records site. Hope that's OK with you.

a few random observations:

1) it is awfully hard to get out any kind of post. the time constraints, even with two teams splitting the task just leaves almost no time (if we are to get the 3 hours of sleep and at least one meal a day, that it takes to be sharp)

2) team RY has the same problem, except worse. a 2-man crew, with only one vehicle. if they are not responding instantly to the demands of about a hundred bozos (who really have no valid reason to believe that they deserve a personal explanation) it might be because they have all they can handle to keep the run progressing.

3) given the tone and tenor of the commentary, why would they volunteer their data, anyway? I would not. the burden of proof *is* on the claimant. but they are not required to prove it to every person on earth individually...

4) monitoring the run does not mean dogging every step. most of the time we have been going a mile up the road, and picking the first *safe* place to wait, and watching the clock. some of the time, we go anywhere from a quarter mile up, and "hide" to watch them pass. afterwards, I make sure they saw we were there. that way they know we could be watching any time. it feels rather silly resorting to such tactics, but "trust" is not an auditing standard.... the route they selected was not the best researched, and a lot of the time, it is not even safe for their vehicle and the runner. it is not our objective to get someone killed. interestingly enough, the RY team greeted us with open arms. they wanted to be monitored. yesterday morning (about 3 or 4 am) they altered the route to take a better road, and called ahead to us, so we would not get separated.

5) this is the most inexperienced team imaginable to take on a task like this. one of the most amazing things is that they have gotten this far... and they are not even ready to kill each other. I will confess to having helped them out a time or two. (at least I hope it was help), it is just not in my nature to watch someone kill themself.

6) I can confidently say RY has covered everything since we got there on foot.

7) lost in all this was a truly inspired performance by RY today. (during my shift) he left Effingham at a painful walk, classic multiday deadlegs syndrome. he tried several times to launch one of those strings of fast miles that got him yesterday's total, but just could not get it going. he walked on into the start of serious heat. we had been doing the math, and it looked like he was dead meat. the only way he could get today's miles in was to start running, and his legs were shot.... then he somehow forced himself to run... and run....and run...until he managed to bail out his day, and have a chance to repeat the process tomorrow. rayk has a picture of RY during this stretch. I hope he can post it somewhere. it is worth a thousand words.

8) there remain serious questions about the first part of the run. I hope they do have the data that will present a believable explanation for all of the discrepancies. if not, the "record" (should he make it to NYC in time) should not be validated. even if he did the entire run, if the supporting documentation is not airtight, records should not be counted. ... I still consider this a possibility. my impression is that the RY team looked at the data going out on the tracker page as funsies, merely intended to entertain his fans and direct people to where he was. equally possible is that inexperienced personnel and loose organization will leave them without the documentation they need.... I do not know. auditing the data was not part of the assigned task, and there is not time to do so, even if it were.

I'm done with this guy, this will be a stalemate when it's all over. He'll never admit wrongdoing, and anybody who knows a thread about running knows he cheated the entire first half.

My interest lies in whether anybody else has become interested in trying this? A good marathon runner could jog/walk this thing and accomplish what he's trying to do, and have a helluva fun adventure with his friends and/or family. I'd love to see somebody do this with a thread of professionalism and document the entire thing. I'd do it myself except I have a hard time running one mile in 6:00 so I probably don't qualify.

This man seems sincere.

But there is obviously an absurd contradiction here; if he's legit, making his TomTom data publicly viewable and not doing ANY facebook videos/tweets/blogs/online interactions with his disciples would be far easier, far more convincing evidence that he has not cheated, and far less time consuming.

Thanks for sharing these, and please keep doing so. This whole thing is just completely fascinating, and gets more fascinating by the day.

I am a little bit confused about the time that this phone call would supposedly have happened at. But, a quick Google search of bars in Emporia shows that one closes at 9pm, one closes at midnight, and there does seem to be one near the road that was "maybe" the route that stays open until 2am. So maybe that is where the infamous call happened from ...

But it just boggles my mind that some lost Brit in the middle of dark Kansas is going to find a stranger and a barmaid who are willing to let him use their phones to track down a missing RV.

Do we have a "coherent" story from RY's crew about why there are two phone calls coming in from two different cell phones to report him lost?

Well said sir, spending a few minutes posting the pre Emporia data and hey, it's holiday time compared to all the on line posting they're doing counteracting accusations, etc.

Has Laz suggested he just upload the data to him or his crew?

I interviewed “The Marathon Man,” from the United Kingdom, who was seen running through rural Windsor on his way to Times Square in New York City. He is trying to break a record by running 2800 miles across 14 states in 46 days. He was nearly half-way through his journey when we caught up with him on June 7. ?????

I've read the blog. It is very interesting that the immense suffering which is being described has only started now, while being watched closely. I think a photo of Rob suffering while under observation will definitely speak a thousand words. Just not the words you think they will speak.

I can say I am very interested to see how it goes with him keeping up this daily mileage now that he's being watched. Good luck to him.

I would say ONLY if that is what Guinness stipulated for Rob - which we don't know. A few days ago I found online the Guinness rules for the fastest female crossing, but despite extensive searches today I can't track it down. It's similar to the one Rob posted on his own website, but I wonder if his is a cut & paste from someone else's as it refers to 'he/she' and 'her'. You would need sight of the specifics of RY's attempt - from Guinness themselves.

He's not only sunburnt now, he's experiencing all kinds of hell now that didn't exist a week ago. That's why I'm done. Not sure what the previous post means by "haters breaking down". I hate him enough to not care any longer. I'll check back in a week to see where everything's at.
