Henry; what do you think of this video of youngsters training in Kenya? Was it like that when you came up in the early 70s?
I don't think so. For one, they have shoes. Henry got his first pair of shoes when he was 21 years old.

Enjoy the race. I hope you will keep us up to date on your European trip.
Where will we find a link to the results of the 'nati Rono Mile, what company is doing the timing and results?
Tom
Cincinnati is home to Skyline Chili
http://www.skylinechili.com/Henry, why don't you come to Finland and go to a real sauna. The saunas in the USA do not compare to ours.
Finland is so great in sauna deal I know, but I had to do it twice a day because I was doing both ice water and dry sauna.Alternating until I knocked out few weight in me, so fast in three days, I lost 15 lbs andI ran 300m:7:40 minutes. You are right, you hit the nail right on the head!!!

Henry:
I was playing around on YouTube and came across your victory in the 1978 Commonwealth Games, which comes near the end of this two-race video:

Mike Musyoki (sp??) has one hell of kick for second place. Did you ever go toe to toe with him in the final stages of a race?
Henry, good luck tonight for your mile trial.
And Happy Graduation Day tomorrow :)
Mike didnt have any kick as Ovett could do,so Musyoki I was not worried about him I could take enough a nape in the middle of the race and when I could get up any second and get him.Unlike Steve Ovett, who is always puts me on my toes up to the finish line.He used to scare the devil out of my chest.
By the way this evening was 5:50 minutes on mile trial the winner was 4:56 minute so he didnt lap me as of last year in big mile races.
Henry
Thank you,it is about time for me to eat in three spoons:one for running feet, another for mental duties, and for ritual games.
This is how I grow taller.

Here come the devil!
Dear Mr. Rono-I tried to email you this but the email address I had was not working...I apologize for the length but just HAD to get in touch...
I am an assistant track coach and English teacher at Sycamore High School. I met you Friday evening at the Anderson Invitational track meet when I purchased your book. I want to thank you for agreeing to come to the meet, running the mile, and sharing your amazing story--what an amazing example for the kids, and what a thrill for long-time track and field fans like myself! I was 8 yrs old in 1978, and yet I remember your name and the greatness attached to it. It was an honor to have the opportunity to be in the presence of a track and field legend, and even better to get the chance to buy your book so I could take some of the magic home with me!
I was so tired when I got home from the meet, but I could not wait to start reading it...I promptly read 34 pages before I went to bed :) I must say it was hard to put it down, but I have a four year old daughter who gets up bright and early, so sleep was a bit of a priority. I have already found a passage in the book I plan to share with my team on Monday, if that is all right with you. It is quite the parallel to the advice I had given to several of them in the last few weeks regarding the benefits and process of mental preparation...several recently chose to follow my advice, and found it paid off surprisingly well for them at the meet. As a coach, it was very validating to see the same advice I had just been sharing mentioned in your book, and to know what peace and confidence (and eventually greatness) it led you to...for all the kids who said the positive thinking really helped, and for those who have not yet bought into that strategy, I plan to share the passage with them so they can make their own connections about replacing the negative thinking and talking (and often even some social aspects) of meets with positives and encouragement. My hope is that those who already know it works may share experiences from their races and preparation that are similar to what you share...and perhaps win over those that still don't believe it works. It is a coach and teacher's dream situation--I love when sports and literature and life become real for my kids. Thank you for making this upcoming conversation with them possible, and for reinforcing what some of them now know is true--I can't get much better proof that it really works than the words of an Olympian!
I am truly enjoying the mix of training, stats, culture and historical politics in your book...it is bringing back a lot of memories. I am sure I will use your words in my class and a practice for many, many years to come. And since I am an English teacher, you know I always cite my sources, so you are sure to be given credit every time :)
Thank you again for making time to share your story--it made a tremendous impression on me and many others, I am sure.
Warmest regards & many blessings to you,
Coach G
This is my pleasure to be in this meet and to be able to share with young people my life experiences.Stay in touch.
Thank you Coach G.
I am very happy I ran well today,I-T bent was acting up everytime I go down hill, that is why I was dragging my feet in the last part of the race which was down hill.
In the beginning was great because it was flat and up hill in which I used to,but down hill ha-ah! it is hard for the old knees.
I had it in my mind 1:41 minutes about the same time I did in Texas two months ago. However, I ended up dragging my feet to finish in 1:58.89 hours, which was not bad for the old bones.
I am having fun here in Cincinnati, but I get to leave for Oslo thanks
Henry
