It has been able to absorb all the uncertainty and chaos over tariffs mainly by marking time and waiting to see what happens. There is a lot of money sitting on the sidelines right now. If Trump would stop the tariff madness, there is a good chance that the economy would rebound sharply and even the Fed would be willing to drop interest rates given the crappy employment numbers.
But if Trump keeps up the tariff stupidity, inflation will continue to creep up, the Fed will hold on interest rates and companies will go into belt tightening mode as profit drop. That is when Trump will go down in history as the first president to steer a healthy economy into stagflation by sheer stupidity and incompetence.
