First Knodel left midyear and now Gabe has left at an inopportune time, this tells me the situation over there ain't great from an employee perspective.
There was never a posting, they've just elevated the assistant to interim like they did with Gabe. Big mistake never opening that up after Jim left. And now theres nobody over there with enough experience and ability to make UIC matter.
The new UIC AD does not care at all about XC TF.... he's worse than the old AD. There's plenty of time to find a new head coach for this year but he just doesn't want to deal with it and it's easier to move up the part time assistant.
I give it 1-3 years and that Michigan staff is going to look a whole lot different.

Not sure but often the generic postings are for a person they already have in mind so their hope is not to attract anyone interested in the same specific job.

UC Davis distance situation:
The Aggies return for the 2017 season with a total of 14 runners from last season's squads (seven for the men, seven for the women), with a new interim distance coach Marshall Ackley. Ackley, who coaches the jumpers, multis, and pole vaulters, takes over for Devin Elizondo, who accepted his new position as the head coach for the men's and women's cross country teams at his alma mater, UCLA.

Highly successful NAIA program with a large roster, maybe he is not going anywhere. I did not see an event group mentioned in the post, maybe they are adding a full time position. Whitlock has earned it in my opinion.
Besides, where would he go? NMSU? I also heard that position was offered to the Barton CC sprints coach.

Got word he may be heading to Barton. No longer listed on staff directory page either.
Side note wayland does not have a large roster. Typically 15-20 per gender no throws or pole vault. Don't think they would have 3 full time coaches.
The guy has proven he can coach while at Altis. COACH. He can COACH. Adams has been trying to become more well rounded for years, as can be seen by their improved talent in the sprints. It only comes in small spurts though because that talent hasn't been developed. Imdieke will develop talent.
Can he recruit? Who knows and who cares? You don't think Damon Martin is going to mentor him a little bit? I'm sure he has a few things to teach.
