It's happened before. Big 12 or SEC winners are winners. The expectation is to win.
Head coaching experience is not the same as winning in an event area. Winning as a head coach of any program is winning as a head coach in my book.
This person maybe an incredible head coach, once hired. But he’s never been one. For a P5 program that’s always a gamble. Get your head coach experience somewhere smaller. Can it work? Yes. Does it work? Yes. But I personally don’t agree with it. It can really limit a big program to have a beginner figuring things out with trial and error.
Yea that's caveman thinking. That isn't the Golden rule anymore. We are well beyond that type of thinking, because it proves nothing. Vanderbilt AD wasn't thinking like that nor was South Carolina AD was thinking like that. Evolution baby. Some of the real old heads thought you had to coach high school first before college, then it was be a GA/volunteer before getting college assistant coach gig. Now we are seeing college graduates get power 5 assistant gig. Animals that don't adapt become extinct.

History repeats itself. And history says your guy is correct. More often than not what you’re saying isn’t working.. it’s just not. Facts
doesnt mean it WON’T, just means it’s most likely will not. Head coaching experience is something you won’t understand unless you have it, think about that one.
ADs are looking for people with high IQ and EQ. If you fit what the AD is looking, they don't care about the other stuff. Plenty of mid major D1 Head Coaches can't handle a P5 Head Coach job because they can't manage high level talent with big personality. Winners are winner. One of the best coaches in college track and field has been at the same college his whole career from assistant to HC. Prior to that it was high school/club. Keep dreaming about your mid major HC experience getting you to a P5, it ain't happening Jack.Change your mindset and become a dawg.

Looking at their coaching staff on their website they only have 1 distance coach and it's lee wood, the head of cross & track. So either he's left or they got funding for an assistant coach.
I realize as i type this, it doesn't really answer your question. Sorry hahah
To go from interim to immediately out of a job due to this hire. Ugh
Everyone is staying on staff for the remainder of the year unless they choose to leave for another position.
I can’t see Thomas coaching horizontal jumps, vertical jumps, and multi’s while being director. I assume he’s going to take some coaching responsibilities off of his plate. Whether that keeps any of the current staff past this spring or he brings aboard his own assistants, I can’t see him doing all of that.
why not? He can get a young assistant to help him out. He is too good of a coach not to coach these events. Petros does it at a very high level (obviously at Georgia and now at Illinois).
Has to hire at least three coach pretty soon right
Two of the coaches on staff coach the events he coaches, so if he retains the throws coaches he has to hire at least 4 other coaches. For now, yes he needs 3(sprints/sprints/distance) I believe
