Why do you think that's bad? This is our brain's emergency mechanism to prevent us from dieing. She was either out of carbohydrates (you burn a lot more during the heat even at same effort/heart rate) or had some other type of fatigue, so instead of letting her keep going and push through the fatigue and end up dieing the brain shuts her down by triggering a collapse to prevent her from doing any further damage.

We can be happy that our brains work that way.

What was sad is that the TV people did not show it, I only saw it for a fraction of a second with the med team and it wasn't even sure if it was Salpeter, only after seeing that Mazuronak was next after the leaders it became clear. They could have at least showed it for a few seconds and bring clarity to the audience. Pushing the bodies to our limit is part of the sport.

is that right? or is it just top 10 means you don't have to have the qualifying time? (but that didn't matter anyway since olympic marathon trials was labelled a gold race)

No one will make the Olympic team until Feb 29

Final bell rang at 35k and Chepngetich picked up the pace by two, maybe even three gears. Gap is increasing significantly right now, Gold might be decided in the next 1-2 mins.

Wow this is absolutely insane. I hope no one get serious long term health problems from this idiotic decision. This would be 100% the IAAFs fault.

Training in the Southeast, it feels like one long death march in the summer. No long term negative effects I have noticed.

Chepngetich goes at the bell lap! Still has over 6K to run. She must feel good but seems way too early.

Big difference between training in the Southeast and racing a marathon in an 80F dew point. You can do permanent damage

Chepngetich with 10 seconds on Chelimo and 20 sec over Kiplagat and Johannes. Just over 5K to go.

Running in this type of weather, you maybe going along at a good clip, feeling good and than your body just shuts down. Do not be surprised if that is the current leaders fate.

I lived in the Florida Keys until college, and run all summer in SoCal now in over 100 degrees each day. One marathon won't kill them.

41 year old Robert Groner up to 6th as 2 more in the top 8 dropped out the last 5k. Great run by her.

I'm feeling sorry for everyone who is getting lapped right now. Realizing they still have to finish their lap AND do another 7k lap after must be terrible in this heat.

Groner for sure in 6th. 5th possible....top 4 will be tough

The mean dew point in the summer in LA is 60F, the dew point here is 80F
