Lets get back to discussion about athletes at this years Nationals. Big story is Jess Hull going for the treble over 800,1500,5k which means 5 races in 4 days. Can she do it?

I love that she's having a go. But I don't think she'll do it. The depth means there's no easy race - Claudia, Linden, Lauren Ryan.
Singularly I think she'd be champ at any of these distances if she wanted to. TBH I think if she trained for 6 months specifically she could have the 10k and half records. But to do this all over 5 days is a big ask. The 5k girls will know she wants a sit and kick and (surely) won't let it go that way.

The flights/hotels are sorted by Nic/Collis but it's funny that after 14 years as a "professional" athlete, Brett can't work out that he may need a bit longer to adjust to a different time zone. Alas, this is the MTC way.
The women's 800m final is only 30 minutes before the 5km so I'm really curious to see how she pulls it off. Probably a good chance for her to see where she's at with the current crop of 800m girls coming through..
Not to bring the chat back to podcast gossip, but did anyone listen to the Chinese shoe chat on IRP this week? Moose sounded quite ignorant and slightly bitter about the rising popularity of Chinese brands. He tried to fob saying they don't set-up distribution in Australia for these brands and Chinese brands don't pay tax or give back to the community - News flash, a few of these brands are already in Australia and are being sold by your competitor at Running Warehouse, Moose.
Saying he doesn't want to spend the effort/energy to try out these shoes that are just as good as western brands but at a fraction of the price is pretty pathetic for a self-proclaimed "shoe dog".
Don't get me started on the bloke complaining about customers in his store who would prefer to buy them cheaper online. So many tales of woe for a bloke who now owns 3 running stores and a mansion in Anglesea.
"Don't get me started on the bloke complaining about customers in his store who would prefer to buy them cheaper online."
Nah can't agree with this part at all. What he's specifically talking about when getting pissed over this is when someone comes into the store, tries shoes on, goes through the assessments on the treadmill, takes someone away for 30 minutes and then goes "I've seen them cheaper online I'll go there". Which is absolute dog behaviour. The reason the online store is cheaper is because they're not allowing you the opportunity to do all of that, across all the brands.

Rant over.
Don't worry about it. This is not Moose's problem. This is Nike, Adidas, Asics etc. problem, and nothing to do with Australian Athletics. If Chinese shoes are such a threat, these companies will find a way to produce their shoes less expensively, so that Moose can selling them cheaper.
It is also an athlete problem. When Cam Myers ditches Nike for random Chinese brand, we should pay attention.
And in any case, with products like shoes, there is "prestige" and "heritage", which consumers are willing to pay more for. This is why people buy Mercedes even though a Toyota can technically do the same thing for far less e.g. drive from A to B.

I interpreted it as him protecting his turf. He's always positioned himself as different (better) than the Running Warehouse type stores- he has to, or he's out of business. He probably doesn't have the room or will to stock the Chinese shoes (yet) and so it makes sense to paint the picture that his customers aren't ready for it yet. If he's slinging plenty of $300 shoes, wouldn't it be strategically dumb to load up on $150 shoes with a much smaller margin?
I've always taken his $$ complaints as a bit of a joke though, as you say, he's gotta be doing quite well for himself.

Hull is awesome.
I think 800m will be difficult over Claudia.
1500m and 5000m obviously can pull it off.
Who is the biggest 5000m threat to Jess? Linden, Rose, Lauren?

Yep, i'll pay that. I was on a bit of a tear when I wrote the complaint. Fair point
I just think the whole way he framed he argument about Chinese brands was so lazy. The whole "not giving back to the community" thing would apply to most western brands too. I don't take running shoe reviews on youtube seriously if they don't review Chinese brands, and I think the same goes for Moose.
How about he spends $100 (yea, only $100 cause they're cheap as chips) on a pair and actually see what the hype's about seeing as he's the big "shoe dog".
The MTC setup has always seemed at odds with good performance orientated choices, but other groups do this too - OAC springs to mind and Geordie Beamish doing 2 races in Europe with an overnight ferry in between, or racing steeples despite being very ill.
The overnight flights and their training around those strikes me as a huge red flag. Brett specifically did Nagoya half 2 days off of an overnight flight, then a flight back to Melbourne overnight and straight into Tuesday training with MTC. He specifically said on FTK that "I only ran 64 so could train normally" - as if any of us doing 21k at marathon pace bookended by 2 overnight flights wouldn't destroy us.
Have often thought that the attitudes to enabling good performance in other sports really need to filter down to running. Cycling teams are transporting mattresses around the world for their riders to sleep on... MTC are taking overnight flights days before races. There's low hanging fruit there that could be easily improved upon with the right attitude from the coaching staff (big hurdle for MTC/AA at present).
Its because Nic wants to pocket the travel money. The race will give the agent the appropriate amount of money for the athlete to travel to the race but Nic books his athletes the cheapest travel (ie. overnight flights) and keeps the remainder.
Not sure if Jess can do it but I like she's trying a new challenge. As she has won so many nationals and will get selected for CG win or lose so why not go for this huge feat. You know what I'm going to say yes!

Izzi BD made a point of saying in a recent pod she’s leaving for the US on the 10th, ahead of Boston on the 20th so she can get on the time zone and get over the travel. She seems to be one of only a few MTC athletes who travel wisely.
Re Chinese shoes, Lisa Weightman was sponsored by one of the big Chinese companies last year, did a few trips and races over there too and 12 months later she’s now with Puma, so read into that how you will.

Yeh I wondered why Lisa changed. A better deal with Puma or the Chinese shoes didn't give us pop as the more well known brands?

Okay so I listened to that segment, and I think you're being a bit harsh.
Moose seemed to know exactly what he was talking about, and even acknowledged these Chinese shoe brands have access to good materials and factories to make a decent product etc. I don't think he ever said they were bad shoes, but made the point the Chinese shoes aren't really catered towards daily mileage and feet with specific orthopedic needs. More performance oriented. His take was actually quite holistic, from manufacturing, to distribution, to sponsorship, to performance (even mentioning that Cam Myers could run in any shoe and still kick ass - true) and then finally to selling a shoe in a shop to someone who isn't following influencer reels like yourself and has never heard of a Chinese shoe. It's about trust, brand recognition and ease of purchase. Perhaps learn about behavioural economics...
