why does David Roche keep banging on about being in sub-4 at altitude shape?

I recognize this is a little obsessed on my end, but did anyone see the very short IG story Walmsley posted which is him running 7:15 pace on a treadmill? It's literally the antithesis of these Roche videos. 5 seconds long, just a quick shot of the screen and his feet landing, can't see his face. Described as a warm up, but nothing about the actual workout.

What's the over/under on how much fast Jim runs from the river to the track than David? I'm putting it at 2 hours.

Let's be real: he going to go out way too fast trying to keep with with Jim and Killian, blow up, DNF before the river, and then claim he got injured. Dude ain't finishing WS because its easier to quit and claim to be the greatest eva than it is to come in like 14th OA and face reality. gonna say 2:21 based on his lifetime of workouts prior to this past month. If all these treadmill workouts from the past little bit are even close to legit, then yeah I think 2:17:59 at some place like CIM seems possible.

He said on a podcast that someone would have to be a 2:08 marathoner to beat one of his Leadville splits, so like many things, he clearly believes he is capable of an OTQ even though he’ll never even come close to trying to do it. Also said his wife would’ve been not just an Olympian but “one of the best” if she had focused on cycling. What could have been! I’m still convinced I could’ve been the next Timothée Chalamet if I would’ve just focused more on my acting career.

Yeah obviously he’s nowhere near 2:08 or 2:10 or even 2:16. As someone said, he could MAYBE run the OTQ, but only maybe. His road 10k PR (from when he was 25) is 31:30. Even if he wasn’t in the greatest shape there’s nothing about that PR to indicate anything more than MAYBE being an OTQ qualified in the marathon

During that 6 x 3 min road workout he said something like “I’m thinking about Killian.”

He said it in a way that reminded me of Michael Scott during the 5k fun run saying “I am very fast!”

To his credit, it’s great theater for the ultra world. I would bet that Jim and Kilian are noting his craziness and they both would be wildly embarrassed if they lost to him.

I don't think anybody cares at all. Anton Krupicka could have beaten Matt Carpenters record easily in the early 2010s if he would have learned to train better and eat more during a 100 miler.
Leadville 100 as a race has lost it relevance in ultrarunning long time ago. It's a high race but that's about it.

One of his recent zwift rides has very strange power numbers when compared to his heart rate. Has his heart rate in just about zone 2 the whole time but with a pyramidal distribution of power with it mainly in tempo zone. I guess his ftp could be off, but the heart rate appears to be steady the whole way until he starts the climb, when it goes up, then stays steady at zone 2, with watts of 275 at zone 2 heart rate apparently. And he makes sure to state this in his description (it is not even at highest end of zone 2 heart rate apparently). That many watts at zone 2 is just about pro or elite cyclist level isn't it? I know top ironman guys can go over 300w for 180km, but this seems extremely high for zone 2 for someone who cycles once or twice per week.

i guess his power meter/trainer mustn't be properly calibrated.
