I just want to just talk about the Dublin 3200, quite literally one of the craziest races to actually watch. It was a back and forth between Caldwell and Fitchen-Young taking control of the pace. However, I was really surprised by Isaac Abbott, he was ambitious and gutsy trying to hang with the top dawgs- essentially pulling a JR Lesher. Part of me was thinking he would die out considering he was staying with Caldwell, Aydon, and Eli for the majority of the race. He moved up well and could’ve very well almost caught Eli, he almost had Aydon until the last few meters. I’m just saying that race was pretty insane compared to previous Dublin 3200 sombrero races.
I noticed that Broen Holman wasn’t really in the conversation during the race. What happened to him? He’s an NXN, footlocker, and 8:54 3200m runner?
Broen is an age cheat so he shouldn't be in HS anyways
I feel like lowkey his age is now putting him at a disadvantage. In a high school racing context, he’s probably at his peak. Younger athletes (in high school xc context) are still developing but older athletes tend to be either developing ar a slower pace or have hit their peak. Just take Broen’s post season, he ran 11 seconds slower than he’d usually run and placed 27th at the footlocker qualifier- maybe it could just be a bad post season or by this point, he’s already hit his peak. It could also be why he only consistently ran 14:46 at Woodward park. Now, I’m not here to bash Broen but I’m just saying, the possibility that Broen has hit his peak (at least in a high school xc context) is possible. Honestly, there is already enough people on threads bashing Broen for being an age cheat, so this will be the last post on this thread that I comment on it further since it’s kind of already irrelevant.

Male athletes don't tend to peak age wise until their mid 20s. Anything below than is a biological advantage.
ten is always great. the high school fields are usually quite good, but i’m wondering what it’s gonna be like this year with MOC the week before, stanford the week after ten, and arcadia on the horizon. i’m not expecting crazy fields.
Seeing how weak MOC was this year, I have a feeling The Ten will have great talent this year. Looks like many of the top runners who competed in MOC last year skipped it this year, and I'll bet you'll see them at The Ten.
How do you guys even host these type of meets such as Dublin? 1500 people in the boys mile, ridiculous. A 4:19 can get you in the top 10, but a 9:50 3200 wasn't even in the top 100.

By going fast. Unfortunately is did cost 2 broken wrists on bunched starts but it's an excellent meet.

It's an extremely bunched meet and they literally start the next race AS SOON AS the one prior ends. The 800 is especially chaotic, you have like 20 people in one race lmao
Bakersfield represent. He's only a junior. We haven't had someone this good in quite some time. Sub 9 potential. The whole city of Bakersfield hasn't had a sub 9 since Blake Haney 2014

Just curious what CIF folks here think about this - i've always felt like throwers deserved a third event. What do any of the head coaches here think about the outdoor weight throw as a 3rd official CIF throws event?

That sounds like an awful idea. The safety problems that HS have with discus already are way too much and I'm actually surprised more aren't injured the way I see things run. Now to have another event that creates a list of safety problems would be a disaster. Someone was JUST killed by the weight throw in Colorado, I don't think it will be added anytime soon.

It’s kinda disappointing that Dublin got zero coverage but Hi-Racer got a lot from Rich, HD Runners, and Youth Runner Mag. Arguably, Dublin had faster times (especially in the 3200) and is the biggest distance only meet in the state, and arguably the nation than Hi-Racer. It just goes to show that no one gives a f**k about NorCal XC. Let’s not forget that the top team in the state is from Sacramento…
Maybe a good gig for Brozzie to start covering California TF. He can travel, vlog, etc. Get some free coffee and share how 420 isn't fast has been said for years ... he just stole the line.

Totally agree. If it didn't happen in So. Cal did it even happen?
It seems the SoCal media (HD, RG, Milesplit West etc) is even more interested in covering Utah teams and runners as well rather than Central and Northern California. That said, I don’t think Jesuit is really lacking coverage. 99% of the rest - yes.
I mean, I’m just saying, other parts of Cali need some love (especially NorCal cause imo I think they get seriously under appreciated- Central section has slightly more love due to them being venues for the state meet in both Track and XC). My point of Jesuit being the best time in the state rn just further proves that NorCal is seriously underrated (tho, Jesuit does get a lot of coverage for obv reasons). I’m just saying tho. The majority of the top individuals from the class of 25 are from NorCal (Aydon, Pretre, Bouie, Cook, Holman, Burr (before the injury), Caldwell, Sagiraju, Fitchen-Young) compared to SoCal’s Noonan, Turk, Lesher, and Kushen. Hell even class of 24 was stacked with NorCal talent (Oakdale, Morgenfeld, Josh Chu, Olaf Dietz, Lucas Cohen). NorCal is stacked with talent but ONLY gets coverage in big meets against SoCal schools. Just saying, NorCal gets seriously slept on. Hell even my class (co’22) also had serious talent from NorCal (Branden King, Daniel Winter, Sean Lacey, Jeremy Kain, Adin Dibble, Kellen Steplight (before the injury), Mario Giannini, Zach Ayers (for god sake he won the state meet in 3200), Harry Dance, Alex Mader) but obv it was all about Newberry Park and Great Oak (though they do deserve their praise, I feel like they overshadowed everyone else).

Here is the thing though, if you are going to go with "NorCal needs love too" then you can't leave out the girls because you are doing the exact same thing.
That is completely my bad. My knowledge of NorCal girls from recent years is kind of… well not the best but I could name a few names from the top of my head.
NorCal girls: Riley Chamberlin, Cate Joaquin, Carly Foster, Kopec Sisters/Whitney, Grace Baxter, Khole DeLaTorre, Montgomery Trio (Thomson, Kittlestrom, Lacefield), Natalie Arriaza, Placer girls (Alma Mater), Oakridge girls, Los Altos girls, Czajkowska and Bharwaj, Tatum Olsen, McNatt Twins, Monte Vista girls, Ellie Buckley, Shea Volkamer, Alexandra Kloss (D2 XC state champion 2019, now D1 soccer player at Santa Clara), Saint Francis MV and Sacramento
