Fact check this: “Border crossings are lower under Harris than they were under Trump” - Tim Walz
That’s true.
Details: In August, migrant apprehensions along the U.S. southern border numbered 58,038, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data. When Trump left office in January 2021, migrant apprehensions along the U.S. southern border numbered 75,316 that month.
58,038 < 75,316
It’s also true that Trump used his influence to block the passage of a bipartisan border bill so he could use the border as one of the main issues of his campaign.
It’s also true that Trump failed to deliver on his promise to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it when he was president.
Just checked your fact check. August 2024 SW border migrant encounters (they call them encounters under Biden, not apprehensions) numbered 107,503, not 58,038.
This decline is mostly due to heat, but if it is due to a policy shift, then why didn’t the policy shift take place sooner (you know, when they were getting 300,000 per month)? The simple answer is THEY DIDN’T WANT IT TO. They opened the border on purpose. The truth is it doesn’t take an act of congress to secure the border. Biden / Harris had more border crossers in one year (2023) than Trump had in four.
Stop lying, that won't work here son. Trump specifically made the GOP to kill the bill because he wanted to use immigration as an election talking point.
The Bill also included 14 billion for Israel which in light of recent attacks makes it's failure even wore.

Couple of other things you should notice: CBP is hiding data from most of Trump’s tenure to make it look like Biden is cracking down on the border. You can get the data from old news articles, but you really have to dig. Effectively, Biden/Mayorkas/Harris are book burning.
Second by using January as the litmus for Trump, you are ignoring the Biden pull factor. Encounters at the southern border started ramping up as soon as Biden won the election in November. Those last nine days of January were a parade of migrant caravans.

why didn't the Dems use exec orders earlier?
they could have, yes.
but it would have been a slap in the face of the bipartisan lawmakers writing a bill to fix it.
and it is always better for the legislature to change important policy, rather than just having a kinglike president do it.
Biden wanted an actual law to fix the problem so he waited, like a good president should. Should have worked, but the anti-american selfish chaos agent DJT blew it up.
After trump killed the bipartisan bill, biden figured he had no choice and stepped in with executive orders.

Do we have any numbers on the amount of asylum seekers we're getting? Adding illegal and asylum (illegal by another name) together might give us a better picture of the situation.

I heard only one person died in the latest missile attack - seems like Israel is holding up just fine.
But you are wildly biased so you don't realize it. Next.

But you see, this is the problem.
The definition of "fix the problem" for Democrats is to more quickly facilitate people from around the world being dumped into the US (illegally or legally, it doesn't matter to them) ultimately resulting in a mass amnesty (cue progressive rant about Reagan, go ahead).
The definition of "fix the problem" for pro-American conservatives and an overwhelming percentage of Americans is to stop nearly all current immigration coming into the country and begin a tranched, multi-prong deportation effort for many millions (not all) illegals who are currently here.

Absolutely delusional levels of cope.
All data are fake except those you agree with, apparently.

I'm sure you agree with this.
You are a liar
Obama and Biden deported hundreds of thousands. there’s no Dem desire to take in unlimited numbers. Come back to me with something based in reality.

During disgraced former president Obama's term, they began combining the count of border turn-away's and deportation. When any normal person dreams of deportations, they don't mean someone being turned back at the border.
If deportation weren't any issue during the dreary Obama years, why are they suddenly an issue now?
I didn't say "unlimited" - but let me ask, what is the number of immigrants you want allowed in per year? I say ZERO, at least for a while.
Before I read all the political arguments I would like to Praise Walz and Vance for saying positive things if infrequently throughout the debate. Those moments reminded me of debates in the 80s, 90s and earlier which both sides can agree were better times than the one we are currently in. It was also better than the presidential debate where there was none of that if I recall correctly.

Democrats are so slimy.
zero.
ok man.
troll.
biden deported 520,000 people in a single nine-month span. he has deported more than Trump deported.
And you maroons say we have open borders.
good grief.
I don't know what the ideal number of immigrants is, so I can't answer that. I agree that we need to have a controlled flow so the nation's culture doesn't' get overwhelmedby newcomers. We probably agree there.

You know what, you’re actually right about the 107,503 total. The 58,038 represents only US Border Patrol encounters. When you add in the 49,465 encounters by the Office of Field Operations, that brings the total to 107,503. However, we need to note that the new “encounters” category combines expulsions and apprehensions. That makes it difficult to compare to previous data that were based solely on apprehensions.
I don’t think the decline in August this year can be attributed to heat. In each of the previous three years, the August totals were one of the highest monthly totals of the year.
I noticed your fact checking was limited to only one of the three things I stated. Do you have anything to say about Trump blocking the bipartisan border bill and Trump’s failure to deliver on his promise to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it?

The border bill to protect the border after creating the mess and doing nothing for over three years? The border bill where nearly two thirds of monies involved went overseas? The border bill that would allow nearly two million people in a year. The border bill that wouldn’t address the 3 million backlogged asylum claims, a 50% increase since 2021. And at the end of the day Trump could only voice his opinion, five democratic senators agreed with him, which killed the bill.
