Nuguse had a disappointing result but he at least have himself a chance. I don’t understand these guys who go straight to the back and think they’ll make up any sort of significant ground in the final 400
My guess is that he knew he wasn't in shape to be competitive unless he got lucky and multiple runners blow up. So he ran minimal distance waiting for the final sprint to open things up.
Ingebrigtsen bl;w it. Everyone was in the race going into the bell lap when he needed to go out harder and run the kick out of everyone. 2nd year in a row of this happening, makes you wonder why the tactics didn't change from 2022 compared to 2023
because that's easier said than done. And that's why I have always thought hes more vulnerable in the 1500m than in the 5000m. No one has better raw speed in the 5000, while quite a few do in the 1500.
To Norwegian media: in the race today I wasnt the best runner. I felt it quite early. When Kerr came I had nothing to answer with/no shot. (.. after questions about comparing with last year) last year I was the best but didn't win, this year I wasn't the best. I have no excuses.
Seems like he has accepted it and takes it with stride. Very calm but disappointed.

I think all of us have been there. You start a race and realize that something just isn't happening.
Damn he almost wasn't even the first Norwegian, 0.03... Jakob just doesn't have a whole lot of speed and the rest of the world has been getting quicker over the 1500, he's always going to be at risk if the pace isn't brisk the whole way like Tokyo.
He lost because of being the pacemaker, not because he isn't fast enough. We all thought he had enough margin to solo run it but that wasn't the case.
Im buzzing, that was sick. I wish Kerr would race more than twice per year, but clearly it pays off. Remember when all of Letsrun was calling Kerr fat? I guess bullying works...
Last year Jakob was pissed off about losing because he was convinced that he was the best on the day, but he chose the wrong tactics and lost.
Today was different.
In a post-race interview he said "today I wasn't the best".
There was another thread in which some Italian commentator was quoted as saying that JI has some bit of injury and might not run the 5000m. Perhaps he was right?
Kerr just pointed to his head while walking towards the sidelines. I hope someone asks him about that. It seemed he was saying, "I was thinking... smart... something like that."

He was referring to Jakob calling the whole field "idiots" in his Norwegian interview the other day. Classic.
He never did. I have no idea why people need to invent things to justify some hate.
Jakob dismisses the idea of practicing un-paced races, yet in his only un-paced race with serious competition last year he was trashed by a runner with a slower PR. All the 1500s he ran on the track in 2022 were personally paced DL races, and a slow win at European champs. The LetsRun question was smart: "Should you practice racing unpaced events?"
Jakob's breathing looked labored early. Maybe the dumb@ss final lap in the semi took a little out of him.
Yeah he ran like Asbel Kiprop in that semi, lol. He needs to get some tactics coaching from Bernard Lagat or Matt Centrowitz or something -- that ain't it.

He is nothing if not straight forward about things. Wow, still shocked. Nothing this season would have led you to think he would not have put a lot of distance on Kerr in the last 150. I just never thought Jakob could have such a bad day when it mattered most. I guess this cannot happen to Kipyegon right, or the distance between her and 2nd in talent is far far greater than Jakob and the others. Really thought Yared would be right there to medal if not win in this sort of race, one with Jakob laying an egg. Kerr gets the gold and now he better go get a cheeseburger.
