The only way to rationalize that would be to believe that every other race Chelangat ran in XC before, or after (plus the BU race) was BAD and she showed her outlier fitness in that ONE race, only.
But, at least you are willing to put a number out there.

If she is not injured, I expect her to go well under 32:00 this spring.
So if the race was run 10 times, would the top 10 finish in the same order all 10 times? Guessing you would agree that it would be different every time. So how can 1 be better than 2 and 2 better than 3 and 3 better than 4 and so on if it would be different every time? There are many runners in the NCAA with faster 3000 PRs than Tuohy. I guess they are all clearly better than her according to you. Sounds like she needs to stick to 6k XC.
