it is not clocked at handoff, it is clocked when the baton goes through the midway point of the handoff zone, regardless of when it is passed.
Only Mu was below 49. right around 48.2. Muhammad had second best split at 49.2, which is roughly equal to Syd's 49.9 from blocks. Felix running same time in relay as her open time is a bit disappointing. But you would have liked at least half a second faster from Syd and and Dalilah as well.
The World Athletics site has:
Their unofficial splits:
Sydney McLaughlin 49.96
Allyson Felix 49.58
Dalilah Muhammad 48.97
Athing Mu 48.34
nice. those were my crappy hand times. 2/10s off about par for the course.
What was with that twat from Belgium that kept putting his hand on the US thirds legs back prior to the exchange? He kept swatting him off but Belgium kept placing his hand on US’s back. Was he trying to play mind games?

Bring on the 'THON! Can we Expect Great Things from Galen?
Benjamin closed really well. One of the few US male sprinters that met or exceeded expectations this Olympics.

Seriously though, 2 awkward bodied boys from Norway take 2 gold medals in incredible times against people who look like like they're from central casting in their event. I'm not saying this smells but the whole Norwegian olympic team doesn't look the part for the times they're putting down, even that Triathlon guy.
Look I'm not saying that the Ingebrigtsens aren't doping. It's possible.
But we've known Jakob was a generational talent for at least the last 6 years...
While we are on the subject of criticising athletes' physical appearance, I'd like to point out that its great how the geriatric grandfather Cheriuiyot managed to hang onto silver, despite clearly having difficulties with his arthritis.
Lasitskene was banned for doping? How does doping help in the high jump? Does it make you longer? Her Wikipedia page already updated.
I have no idea if Jakob is doping, but saying he is a generational talent can be countered with Marion Jones for example.

Not kidding; why is the lead-off the longest leg? (That's what the commentator said.) I honestly don't know. If they pass halfway through the zone, shouldn't it be 400m?
It feels like it because you keep running past the finish line. It's actually usually the shortest leg - 395-398m, last leg they get the baton just before the finish line, runs 402-405m.
Official splits
50.21 McLaughlin
49.38 Felix
48.94 Muhammad
48.32 Mu
