I thought it was common knowledge that Mike Smith was offered the Tennessee job before Carlson for nearly twice what he's making now at NAU - but he turned it down because there aren't any scholarships going to distance there. Maybe a different situation given Colorado's distance history, but apparently the money was not in fact talking.
