From the same Fox News that said that a former Supreme Clerk "blew up" the rationale for the search warrant in an interview in which he did no such thing. However, it certainly is possible that the FBI found wrongdoing and is in damage control. There isn't an administration that has escaped humans doing things they shouldn't do. I'm 70 and I don't recall a completely clean administration.

Fascism at its core is unrestrained and corrupt power that manifests through violence, destruction, collective mental pathology and greed. As part of that dynamic, fascism and other forms of authoritarianism create a state of malignant normality in which right and wrong are inverted — if they are even understood to exist independent of the Great Leader and his movement's collective will and desires. In that political imaginary, good and bad, right and wrong, and ethics and morality more generally are a function of ideology and politics, not something outside them.
As such, in the alternate universe of redcaps, and the larger right-wing echo chamber, it is categorically impossible to see Donald Trump as a criminal or law-breaker.
For Trump's followers, anything and everything he does amounts to "fighting for people like them" and defending "their values" — those of "real America" — against the imagined enemy of the moment, whether that is "wokeness," the Black Lives Matter movement, LGBTQ equality, Muslims, immigrants or something else.

A bunch of federal prosecutors, all of whom served in Republican administrations, filed an amicus brief arguing that a Special Master is not need to evaluate documents for executive privilege because, as has been noted in this thread, claims of executive privilege makes no sense when asserted by a former president against a current president. The executive privilege is for the Executive branch to assert against other branches of government, not against itself, and certainly not for an ass-booted executive to assert against anyone or anything.

I think the judge will agree, and hopefully rules that way now rather than delaying the decision for another day. The Special Master can still be used to review for attorney-client privilege, which is a different ball of animal wax.

The Feds filed a response to the Motion for Special Master. Unlike the Trump motion, this response brief has a factual background section that HAS citations to exhibits (such as letters sent between the combatants). You can get a good understanding of the chronology of events leading up to the raid on the Trump compound.

Some interesting points are that:

1. On June 3, 2022, when the DOJ visited the Trump compound pursuant to the subpoena, Trump's lawyers (1) handed them one single redbang file, (2) never mentioned anything about declassification or privilege (indicating the declassification defense was probably invented after the fact), and (3) said ALL documents had been in the "Storage Room" BUT that the FBI/DOJ were not allowed to look at remaining "personal" boxes still in the Storage Room. The Trump lawyers also submitted a signed Certification that ALL documents were now returned.

2. Here is the really interesting and NEW allegation. AFTER the visit to the Trump compound by the FBI and DOJ on June 3, 2022: "Through further investigation, the FBI uncovered multiple sources of evidence indicating that the response to the May 11 grand jury subpoena was incomplete and that classified documents remained at the Premises, notwithstanding the sworn certification made to the government on June 3. In particular, the government developed evidence that a search limited to the Storage Room would not have uncovered all the classified documents at the Premises. The government also developed evidence that government records were likely concealed and removed from the Storage Room and that efforts were likely taken to obstruct the government’s investigation." See ECF 48 at 10.

That latter bit of bolded information is REALLY bad for Trump. It can only have come from a rat. So you have a false Declaration and a rat willing to testify that Trump or his lawyers were moving boxes with classified documents out of the Storage Room and into Trump's bathroom AFTER the June 3, 2022 subpoena visit. Good f'ing grief!

3. That false Certification is looking more and more bogus: "over one hundred unique documents with classification markings—that is, more than twice the amount produced on June 3, 2022, in response to the grand jury subpoena—were seized." ECF 48 at 13. So the Certification basically says "you now have it all" while more than 2X the amount of classified documents were still scattered around the Trump compound. See ECF 48 at 13 ("the search cast serious doubt on the claim in the certification (and now in the Motion) that there had been “a diligent search” for records responsive to the grand jury subpoena"). See also ECF 48 at 13 ("That the FBI, in a matter of hours, recovered twice as many documents with classification markings as the “diligent search” that the former President’s counsel and other representatives had weeks to perform calls into serious question the representations made in the June 3 certification and casts doubt on the extent of cooperation in this matter.")

This is looking way worse for Trump than it was yesterday. Trump and his lawyers must be idiots and/or lunatics to have acted like this. Crazy behavior.

It is predictable that the right wing would shift their position on law enforcement because their beloved leader is in the crosshairs. For 5 years the right has flown flags with thin blue lines and lit blue porch lites. When police injustice occurs the response is "they just need to comply". When asked about unfair targeting of demographics the response is: "If they just obey the law they have nothing to worry about".

What is noteworthy is that Republicans have got busted over the years for criminal sexual assault against minors, corruption and other crimes and the right never came out against the police, FBI or the DOJ. It was only when it comes to beloved Trump that they immediately stop backing the blue. When Jan 6 occurred they turned on Police that were simply doing their jobs and using restraint. It would have been a bloodbath if police were allowed to use deadly force. When Trump is held to the same laws as citizens about stealing highly classified documents they turn on the FBI. Yes indeed, the FBI director that Trump appointed is corrupt! And the republican Judges that are ruling against Trump are corrupt too!

It shows you how they have become a fascist cult and not a political party. There is simply nothing Trump can do or say that they will not oppose or come to his defense.
