Right now she is on course for 56 days with her average of 54.8 miles per day. Just because she did a couple of 60 mile days does not mean she can hold that up until the end.

Sandy's average at the halfway point is 54.8 miles/day, including all the early miles through the mountains and higher elevations. Her most recent five days of running show improvement now that she's reached the plains, averaging 61.3 miles per day. But you think she's going to end up with a final overall average of 53, lower than either of those measures? Why? That would require her to drop from the past week's daily average of 61 down to 51, and stay at that lower number for the rest of the trip. Sure it's possible if she burns out or gets injured, but I wouldn't say it's the most likely prediction.

I have Mimi at 41 miles in 11:50 at 3:33 PM (5:33 PM Missouri). She is averaging ~3.5 mph. To hit 53 miles today she has to run for more than 3 hours. I don't see her making 57 miles today.

I have Sandy at 46 miles so far. Mimi's shorter lunch break cut that miles gap from 4 to 3. That gap is now 5 miles.

Wow. It doesn't look like Marina is going to get to her usual goal of around 55. Also it seems like the last couple of days Strava has shown her to run farther than we get with Google Maps. Probably still within the margin of error though, especially if she's crossing streets back and forth depending on terrain, traffic, etc.

I'm taking a look at Mimi's cadence data on her Strava and Movescount. There are several spots in her data where her Suunto watch show her as having a cadence greater than 100 rpm (200 spm). A normal cadence for a runner for this type of running would be 75-90 rpm (150-180 spm). So why then does her Movescount and Strava show her at several spots as having a super human cadence, like 144 rpm (288 spm). Are the Suunto watches really that bad? Can we even trust this cadence data?

I have noticed that Mimi's Strava distance tends to be a few miles longer.

Earlier you asked someone to estimate the remaining miles. One issue I see is that the total length of what Sandy and Mimi are running will not be what they estimated they would run.

For Mimi, using this mornings starting point Google Maps gives 1060 miles to NYC City Hall. For Sandy, 1540 miles. The person who estimated had 1016 and 1534 miles remaining, respectively. Mimi is some 44 miles short of NYC City Hall using 2838 mile estimate. It seems to me that Mimi's course if closer to 2900 miles.

This isn't running, the whole thing is a joke, has it been promoted as a run across America?

We have lots of pictures of Sandra running with people with an actual running gait. Yet every time I see a picture of Mimi with people she is walking, never running. I just can't buy that Mimi actually did the first two weeks like she claims. She has not shown any credible evidence that she can even sustain a running pace.

With Mimi the longer she keeps up the new cadence, pace, speed, etc. the more it gets worrisome. It appears to be a endless downward spiral after crashing hard. Maybe today is the day she simply realizes she cannot go 55+ miles. I have her at less than 46 miles at 7 PM Missouri time.

Even 3.5 mph is a death shuffle.

Why?

Because chances are high that she is running herself into the ground.

I have seen it in the Trans Australia race, where a top Japanese runner had to drop out a couple of days before the end of the race because he didn't know when to slow down.

Sandy has a big variation in her daily mileage which is not a good thing.

And she is just half way and there are a lot of miles which need to be run.

But we will see. 53 miles per day is still my prediction.

It would be good if Mimi would back off a little for a couple of day. Stay in some better hotels and get more rest.

I think Mimi and Sandy have now a virtual race going on which might not benefit any of them.

There is a chance that both might not be able to finish this run if they get seriously injured. It might be that Mimi is injured already?

Did anybody hear anything about that?

My numbers may have been off a bit. I took the total distances for both runners from the text of Sandy's web page, and then subtracted the mileage logged so far by Movescount/Strava. If you are measuring from their current locations along their intended routes to the finish, then your way of measuring is certainly more accurate.

Markus, what makes Mimi invincible? Her prior accomplishments are in the distance past. Mimi has never run as far as she has. Sandy may well crash and burn, but Mimi has already crossed that point, in my opinion; she is already on a death walk with over 1000 miles to go.
