That's all great, and I agree with your assessment, but then he shouldn't complain when his views drop off. No one wants to see a loser. Let alone a 40 year old that has natural talent, no full time job, and all the time in the world to train, only to go through one self-inflicted blow up after another.

Jake is also young, single and doesn’t have four kids. He basically has all the time in the world to train and recover.

Wouldn’t trust Ben is Runnings opinion on shoes considering he always representing one brand or the other. I’d more likely trust Ben Parkes opinion as at least he buys them all himself (even if they are likely tax write offs).

Coles looking great, if he sticks to the plan and gets fuelling right he should cruise it. Of course anything can go wrong especially in your first marathon.

I think this unbalanced grind mentality is exactly the downfall of so many of these runners. The coachless/uncoachable OG is one thing, but Ben Felton and Floberg have coaches and still have this unbalanced approach. That's bad coaching.

Also, the production value and style of Clayton's videos don't seem forced. I think I've watched a total of 3 Floberg videos and I cannot stand how overproduced and over dramatic everything is. From the camera angles, to the lighting, to how serious he says certain things that shouldn't be that serious. Seems so cringe, contrived, and inauthentic. The man thinks that he is a movie star and every day of his life is the most epic story to be told. I cannot understand how people don't see this and can actually enjoy his videos.

Seth did all of his tempos on point-to-point, significantly net downhill routes this entire block and was fading at the end of all of them. He couldn't have really been expecting that he'd do any better today. The wild thing is, this was actually one of the more normal training blocks that he ever has done and he still: 1) Spent the vast majority of his time running 9:30+ pace, 2) Didn't do anything of quality other than strides until 6 weeks prior to the race, and 3) Seems to have claimed to have discovered interval work this cycle (he did mile repeats once). There's so much room for improvement it's wild!

Seth said to keep on buttering. What did he butter, he bonked. Others from the race said the weather was perfect.

Clayton Young's are really good. Just training hard. It doesn't hurt to have the Utah scenery as a backdrop.

He also doesn't understand what tempo runs are. Every tempo is a race pace effort, at distances that start around a third of his goal race and then just add distance without changing pace. He seems to have no concept of a running, say, an 8 mile tempo that starts at marathon pace and then cuts down. Or 3x5k at marathon pace/half marathon pace/marathon pace. Just incredibly basic building blocks for serious distance training. I sincerely believe he could have easily run an OT qualifier a few years ago by just straight up copying a 2:18 marathoner's workouts from Strava.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with Floberg.

Everything is so deliberate and forced. It is like he is using running to create a show reel to get himself a job directing Calvin Klein commercials

The ironic thing about Floberg is that he flew all the way to McKirdy for this perfect set up, PR slam dunk of a marathon but then ended up having worse conditions than Chicago and also ran further even with a line on the floor to follow. From the footage it looked like the only people taking part were the super serious "Running is my personality" people who take things far too serious

I'd go even further and say that Seth would vastly improve his current race performances if he did the same easy runs all week plus one weekly 6x1km at 5k pace. That would give him more bang for his buck than sporadic downhill 'tempo' runs where he's consistently hitting the wall by the end.

The Distance Project' stuff has always been good and they've now started a channel for Team Makou, the Hoka UK elite group. Really enjoyable stuff, elite level racing, well coached training and likable lads + decent production level. Much better than the shoetuber dross

Top 7 all went wrong at the Newport 10k. They hadn't put the turn around cone down by the time we reached that point. Top 4 all went about 800m long 5-7th went about 200m extra before getting called back but the top 4 were too far past the hear the call.
