His Strava has had very limited running over the past week. I figured he was ill or injured. Still hoping the Greatest of All Time, Still The Original Running YouTuber runs his PR, as his channel has been refreshing of late, especially when compared to Kofuzi and Thomas from Believe in the Run.

but on a serious note, as I move on to other projects and focusing on trying to grow my animated series, I just thought I should share everything I learned.
I caved and looked at second other channel. some of these videos are actually clever. And there is nothing else like it on YouTube. Finally some fresh ideas. Might be the second greatest pivot of shoetuber history.
Who is good that I can start watching? Ben Parkes is decent, all caught up on him. Ben is running is average, Kofuzi is eh, Athlete special is interesting, but mostly caught up
SJD is really beginning to represent the worst traits of elite hobby joggers: big talking, obsessive planning, not training in a consistent and logical manner, hedging before race day, and finding excuses to explain away a slower than expected performance. You’re 39 and not an elite athlete, Seth. Why do you twist so hard to protect your ego and image? You look like a fool to serious athletes and fans. Your minions are impressed that you run everyday and don’t know what true performance is. Why the act and the mental gymnastics?
He has literally always been like this. He has no idea how to train for a road race and actually gets pretty impressive results based on pure talent. He is 100% resistant to any ideas, suggestions, or the mildest of critiques. He follows 5 people on Strava and I think he literally does not have any awareness of what optimal half marathon/marathon training looks like. Nor does he show the least bit of desire to learn.
The irony, as many people have stated repeatedly, is that he has enormous potential for mountain running and ultras, and training for those races requires the sorts of efforts that he most seems to enjoy. He is great at Pike's Peak and the Leadville Marathon, and instead of trying to leverage that success into a trail 50 or 100 (many of which take place within a three-hour drive of his house!), he tries to use that same training approach to PR in road races across the country or in Europe.
And yet he sees himself as some sort of running guru that can never be questioned. It's hilarious and sad.
Man for ages I've been saying SJD should have pivoted to 100mile+ trail races. He has/had legit potential to be near the top in the 100+ distance which is a much less competitive scene and would have gotten him a lot more attention, followers, and street cred. And like you said, his training is already tailored for those distances. Who cares about another 2:20+ road marathon.
And yes, it's utterly depressing to think what times he could've ran had he trained properly.
From what I recall he attempted one ultra, DNF'ed because he wasn't aware that electrolytes are a necessary during a 100 miler on a hot day, and never gave it another shot.

Floberg…is that you? Back to the overly dramatic but this time he acknowledges it therefore excusing it. I like the sit down 60 minutes style interview..that..he..does..on himself. He could be likeable but man he just isn’t. See ya on the Lakefront Gilberg.
If you tell chat GPT your recent times, goal race, training mileage, weekly time limits, and any recent test results, then ask it to write a training plan using only peer reviewed sources, it does at least everything that app does for free.

His coach apparently said he was in 2:29 shape. Where did they get that from?
Floberg says he "understands how to run a good marathon" - the guy hasn't a clue.
He choses a time goal based on thin air, starts at that pace, even when he must know he can't hold on and stays with it until fading.
He has no idea of what marathon effort is. He should have learnt this by now. His marathon pace workouts aren't marathon effort. He shouldn't be throwing up after the final rep. The guy is totally clueless.
Apparently he is worried about getting older and slowing down. Does he think he's a pro athlete with 20 years of running in his legs? He'll probably be hitting PRs for a while yet. Well, until he gets bored putting in 10 hours a week of running for minimum gains

He picked 2:30 because it sounded nice and he assumed he would just knock another 5 off his time. He was mentioning Olympic trial standard at one point, which is hilarious. He isn’t in 2:30 shape, obviously despite being “in his best shape ever”. And why is it that he can only present these videos in dramatic tones? This is a hobby and obviously you put the time in and should take it seriously, that’s totally fine, but man are his videos so over the top. It exceeds the seriousness of the act. He could turn a trip to the bathroom into a 7 minute vlog with a soundtrack and voiceover and it would bring his followers to tears.
The cringiest thing is how dramatically loving floberg and his trust fund friend Clark act. It’s like a weird bromance where they’re both obsessed with making their above average running results and workouts be an act of love with eachother. It’s not that serious. They were writing like lovey instagram comments to eachother. Guys chill out you can be boys but it’s just weird how much floberg edits that part of his big workout video to be so dramatic that Clark is his brother in arms. Cool bruh a douchey trust fund bro living in Chicago is your guy who cares

Again, this shows his lack of knowledge and respect for the marathon distance. You don't knock 5 minutes off your time every marathon when you're down to 2:32. You take the PR and move on to the next race. The guy is absolutely devastated about his time, when he shouldn't be. He is getting faster, just not as fast as he thinks he should be
