So I guess Paul forgot the browser version of Strava literally shows 0 cadence at some points?
That's the defense? Just telling people they can't read a graph?
But he does know the browser version shows the data at discrete points so you can hover over the zeros right? Absolute clown show and he's becoming paranoid. He's also getting ripped pretty consistently in his comments as each post shows him decaying further and further.
I'm at this point less interested in a finish than I am seeing this guy completely lose his mind.

I wonder who inspired that idea!
If only someone had downloaded the "full 37732 points of data from PJ's Strava for that 2024-03-15 day showing that for the last 2.5 hours of the day, the recorded cadence value in rpm was oscillating many times between 0 and 65 rpm, something you simply cannot see in the Strava graphs because of how much data chops off:" then we could be sure that the cadence was well below what is shown on the Strava app.
I've been skeptical but willing to watch this play out before calling him a fraud like some people have. However, after seeing his video gaslighting everyone with the mobile app graph I'm convinced he is either the dumbest person on earth, or he's gaslighting people for some reason. There's just no way someone with thousands of miles posted to Strava would think to use the mobile app as proof when you can very easily pull that up the website.
Hey Streetferret, it's quite easy to fully prove Paul is doing it for real and that's to post the link to his Garmin Connect. That precisely overlays cadence, HR and speed. Any chance of that?

such a wonderful scene. And PJ parodied it beautifully: "My phone cuts off at 100, therefore I'm clean!" Errrr, the browser cuts off at 0 though, so careful going down that road.
Also, marching up hills still needs at least 120spm. And, his zeros yesterday were sub 7min K pace for a good number. The whole day was sensationally swift - PK standard.
Snow stopped play today, boooooo. But up and running now. I think this could end favourably for all parties. The message will be through to base camp now from dozens of sources that it's the browser we're worried about not the phone. All any of us want is for there to be no microriding. Putting the pressure on like this makes it all the harder to pull off. 7.5m in 1:40 today. A nice easy stroll. No concerns at all. Maybe a 40 mile day if all goes well.

Any very ironically you parody yourself because you still don't understand that the Strava graphs can show zero when it isn't zero due to the chopping and simplified data Strava shows.

Slim chance of that.
Technically this FKT was over before it started. The route is open but the official start and end points are SF City Hall to NYC City Hall. I suppose you could argue LA but still, start would be City Hall which PJ did not pass. It's a Goodge-like wrong record on the bus type of mistake. The simplest of google searches will point you to the FKT site in this case.
The sudden pivot to "Running across American to raise money for mental health" from him previously starting a daily post saying "Running 75 miles a day for 40 days across America" comes off as gross to me.
The tried and true method of using a charity as a fallback once you get completely exposed as being unable to accomplish a goal always comes off as icky. It would be different if he had discussed team RWB with more than a passing thought prior to the start but he really didn't.
I’m curious…do you not feel running for a charity is worthwhile? Did you actually follow his multi month build up to this endeavor? While he didn’t mention it daily, at least 3-4 times per week he discussed Team RWB and mental health as the reasons he was doing this.

Have a look at the last couple hours of March 15, say points 30,000 thru 37,733 of the raw. I graphed it and it's pretty damning, but interested what you make of it. HR versus pace in particular. Let me know if you're seeing what I'm seeing.
I have really tried to just keep quiet on this but I just can’t any longer! Here we have someone, a Navy man, who is attempting something incredible for 2 wonderful causes. But there are now 161 pages with mostly negative knock-downs and ridicules. WHY? Is he going to set the record? No. Does that mean he’s a failure? Absolutely not! How many of you commenting here have attempted this? How many of you would attempt to put themselves out there in this very public way? How many of you would try to raise a million dollars with little more than your feet, a crew and social media?
How about not tearing PJ down and perhaps we can try to cheer him on and provide support? Is that even possible on this overly cynical thread?

“Why don’t you run across America?” is such a boring, tedious, completely no thought retort to people being (justly) critical.
Paul doesn’t need our support, he’s the best ultra runner of all time.
what do you mean two wonderful causes? it's rwb, no?
80% of this thread is WG from last year, but has morphed into this.
The reason we're upset is that he massively and arrogantly disrespected a sport, its history, legacy and participants and attracted vast amounts of media, kudos and free swag off the back of what was pretty chronic lying. How does a midpack no-hoper become the best in history by 5%?
Now there are huge concerns about very regular cadence and HR crashes, with the van right there, driving beside him, with the door open, at 6mph, and even them posting footage of a pair of legs dangling there being given a ride.
In summary, there are a few "issues" and it's not just this thread. Reddit and his Insta are super hot on this too.

I agree that simply completing the transcon to your best ability is a great achievement and something that is held in high regard by the ultra running community. Which is exactly why people get so upset when someone cheapens that achievement by cheating. A navy man should understand this better than most.
His fundraising has been admirable but it doesn’t excuse disingenuous behavior.
I’m not accusing him of cheating, I haven’t followed this closely enough to have an opinion either way, but I can understand why people are asking questions.

There are 161 pages of ridicules because of the immense disrespect Paul showed to the ultra community in setting out on this project. To think he could waltz in and beat one of the greats reminds me of that guy Max Deutsch who thought he could study for a month and beat Magnus Carlsen in chess. You don't need to be a Grandmaster to laugh at that, anyone who is decent at chess knows how stratospherically impossible that would be. Likewise, you don't need to have completed a transcon or be an elite ultrarunner to laugh at Paul. Kostelnick had incredible natural talent and put in decades of training and racing to make 42 days. He even got some luck along the way. Paul just doesn't have the body of work to even think about the record.
Anyone here could have accomplished what Paul has. I could blast social media for a month about how I'm going to run a sub 2 marathon. I could run the 4:34 pace for maybe a mile, slow back to 3hr pace while blaming "calories" or something, and then shift the goalposts to the charity I hadn't mentioned in all of the buildup. If I was Kelvin Kiptum, you wouldn't laugh at that because the attempt would be credible. But if my previous PR was a 3:30, you would be right to piss on me on the internet. You might even feel disrespected that I thought I could beat the greats, especially if you had worked for years to even BQ and knew how insane that would be.
So it really doesn't even matter if he is cheating or not. But if he is, we damn well will expose it given the clowning that lead up to this farce.
