Anyone ever had a "Sports Hernia" aka: "Sportsman's hernia", "Gilmore's groin", or &quot

Wow that Protocol looks familiar. I have been doing the same exercises myself. I had the surgery April 12 and am about 70-80% back to normal. I am training to come back to playing soccer. I also had the adductor release along with the abdominal reattachment and a pectineous (sp.) release. My Op report stated that when they got in there, they notcied that there were more than 20 additional micro-tears that had to be dealt with.

I also was experiencing soreness around the inner thigh on the pubic bone itself. I had thought that maybe I was pushing too hard during my workouts, so I decided to ease back a little to maybe 60-70% of full speed. I had a follow up appointment on Monday and Dr. Meyers said the pain was due to scar tissue building up. Apparently between 4-8 weeks post op is when the heavy duty scar tissue builds up. He gave me a cortizone/steroid shot and told me that it would break up the scar tissue. After the shot it felt great. He even said not to hold back on my workouts and to try to do things at full speed. This will help break up additional scar tissue. So I went out on Tuesday and worked out pretty darn hard without any problems. Granted, I am still a little tentative making cuts or trying to sprint at full speed, but I think that is normal after the pain of initially hurting myself and going through the surgery and all the rehab. I'd rather not have a set back. Eventually, I will get comfortable enough to go 100% all the time. But for now, 80% will do until I decide to push a little harder next week.

My surgery was April 26th. The groin area feels great. The inner thigh where I had the adductor release is still a little sore. I may call him about that. Maybe I need a cortisone shot too. I'm at maybe 75%. Did your inner thigh feel sore too after the adductor release?

I did have some pain on the inner thigh, but that passed after a few weeks. On occasion, I will feel a little pull on my lower abdominal area. Have you experienced this at all? It doesn't really hurt, it just feels a little weird if I stretch a certain way. I can do sit-ups and crunches and not feel a thing, but once in a while I'll feel this pull if I move a particular way. I believe Dr. Meyers said that will pass as well once I strengthen the area more. I am very fortunate to work in Philly where his office is, so I can stop in and ask any questions when needed.

I'm in Philly too and work only a few blocks from his office. I got a little nervous about the inner thigh. The abdomen feels great. I have felt a little pull like you said but nothing compares to what it was like before. You made me feel better about the inner thigh. Maybe I'll wait to call him and just see how it goes.

Yeah I'd give it a little time. In the meantime, just stick to the protocol, that's what I have been trying to do and it has been working well so far.

my younger brother has a consult with Dr. Meyers in a few weeks. he has had six operations in 12 months, he is 23 years old and can barely move. the doctor that worked on both of his knees mentioned that he might have a sports hernia. we have been looking into it, however there is very little documentation. in addition to the pains in the groin he complains of burning in his legs (both back and front) and of knee pain as well. is this something common or at least heard of with a sports hernia? he went in for an MRI of his hip today and we will get the results tom. any help anyone can be would be truly appreciated.

hi guys, i just had the surgery on 6/27. dr. myers and his staff are exceptional. they are so easy to speak to. dr.myers gives his cell phone to all patients. i just find this to be impessive. he said he found 2 pretty big tears and he performed the adducter release. i will get the report shortly. any advice from anyone? the internet and in particular this message board helped me find Dr. Myers.

Just got back from Germany.

Just had my 12th year (6/22/94) anniversay of this injury

(certainly didn't celebrate) and I hope that this the end of this nightmare.

my names Ben, 22 a personal trainer. I've been injured for about 12 months now. I was diagnosed by Jerry Gilmore with left sided Gilmores groin. I am pre op and was just wondering what symptoms you had (what hurt, where did it hurt etc).

You must have had the Gilmore's groin 'finger' test(inverting the skin around the groin with a little finger). How did this feel when you had it done, it have pain from the region where the test is done the refer into my groin. (don't know if this makes sense to you)

I am only asking because i am really nervous about having un nesessary surgery and any help you could give me about your experience would be great.

i got diagnosed with a sports hernia by dr muschaweck in munich, surgery in a few weeks.

injury almost 2 years ago, pain immediately and became worse over the following few months.

pain in testicle/adductor. pain in si joint, tailbone, lower back. pain in hip. also in lower abdomen. two lumps present in left abdomen over ingunial canal, one above and one below the ingunial ligament. pain also on right side, below a small lump.

during the digital/"poke" exam, there was a buring pain in point of contact that spread to adductor and abdomen. apparently the injury affects the nerves/nerve root that comes out of L5, where the spine meets the sacrum.

the doctor is confident that all symptoms will go away from surgery.

Based on all the posts I've read and other web sites, I'm pretty sure I have a sports hernia. Injured it pretty bad two weeks ago playing ice hockey. Does anyone know of a physician located in Northern NJ (preferably Bergen County) that is experienced in treating this condition?

Muschaweck, it costs about $5500 per side. I'm actually starting to feel stronger there after just 4 weeks. The first side was so bad she needed nearly 2 hours. The nerves had been sewn into the scar tissue creating maximal fibrosis (her words). I was so swollen that I had to spend another week in Munich before she could do the other side, which required another 75 minutes.

Her and her assistants were sooo nice, helped with arranging the hotel for that extra week, drove me (and even paid for the ride) to that other clinic (in Stranberg).

I really hope that this nightmare is over.

I am tired of begging that bastard in Philly for help.

I had learned about her from this site, but when I told Meyers I was going to have to see her, his response was he fixes her mistakes.

Well that clip on ESPN said quite the opposite.

I booked the flight the next day.

I met another American from LA who did the same thing after seeing that piece on Outside the Lines about

how successful Dr. Muschaweck was at repairing Sports Hernias.

I even ran into a Bears surgeon who was there to learn about her technique, and he had something really interesting to say on that subject.

I sent an email to Meyers last night. Got a reply this morning, called @ 2pm this afternoon and made the appt. I'm there in 2 weeks. Don't see why you had a problem trying to see him.

hockeyguy, how did everything turn out? I have an appt to see Meyers in 2 weeks. I saw a couple of posts later that progress was slow. Have you started playing hockey again? I also play in men's leagues and want to continue doing so.

hey ben i had the op with Jerry Gilmore. It's fine, nothing to worry about. the diagnosis test with the finger is NOT pleasant but if Jerry says you need surgery I think the guy it's named after will be write. You'll be in hospital overnight and the general anes means you dont realised what's happened until after. the day after it hurts but they give you stacks of painkillers to take home after the surgery and to be honest i have taken any of the codeine, i didnt need it. After a week I went for a gentle run and now hopefully i can start doing some proper exercise. you rapidly get better over the first 3 days but after that it takes longer to get back to 100% hope this helps.

and if you are with Jerry the princess grace hospital is really nice.
