There have been many humanitarian athletes out there (I don't know if anyone here is old enough to remember Roberto Clemente, to name one) but because of the unprecedented reach of the Internet, Armstrong's influence in terms of his off-the-field (or road) endeavors is probably unmatched. And his cycling accomplishments are surreal and inspirational even if they might have been amplified by modern pharmacology.

The only reason I've allowed myself to get sucked into these pointless battles is because I have an unnecessary need to correct poor reasoning. Those who claim that the evidence against Armstrong is missing or shaky are wrong. Those who claim that USADA, from TT on down, is a rogue's gallery of asshats and dickwads are missing the point. Those who assert that anyone who agrees with USADA's assessment of Armstrong as guilty must hate the guy are not getting it. (What penalty he deserves, I can't offer a solid opinion.)

Dopers exist, as does evidence for their existence, which has been found in this case.

The Lance apologists remind me of the followers of Richard Dawkins and other pop culture cash chasers.

Their followers draw parallels to witch hunts while refusing to read the documented accounts of eyewitnesses(the Gospels).

You obviously didn't see the stage which was immediately a souurce of controversy because Hincapie didn't take a single turn on the front until he dusted Pereiro in the last couple hundred meters. He rode Pereiro's wheel all the way up the final climb. It was a surprising performance, but your analogous is ridiculous as it was nothing like Spearman winning a 10km. I'm just saying the only thing you talked about that can be objectively verified, you muddled up completely. It makes a reasonable person think you don't know what you're talking about.

Chris Carmichael as a cyclist was part of an organized system of blood doping at the 1984 US Olympics which lead to the expulsion of the USA coach and President.

Many of the Lance apologists are actually interns for the lance Armstrong foundation. A good bit of their duties as interns includes putting out the Lance argument in various public fora under the guise of public relations. That's why the posters sound so much alike and like they are parroting the official statements...they are.

That's fascinating! I suppose in the next story, they'll actually say who was tipping off Lance about the tests? I wonder why they didn't mention HOW they know this? Who told them this was happening? Wouldn't that be interesting to know and fundamental to the story? Funny they didn't mention this at all.

In the same story in which they claim he was "warned before all the controls", they later relate in great detail how improperly Lance behaved when he was SURPRISED by two out-of-competition tests! Which is it? He knew or he didn't?

Maybe it's true what this guy is saying, but just because the story appeals to your prefered perception of the world doesn't mean you should just uncritically accept it as truth.

Wow. Why don't you try telling that to the Supreme Court. Arbitration is a highly respected process in the U.S. Interesting that the USOC supports WADA and USADA, yet it's "incompatible with the U.S. legal system."

Did you have issues with USADA before? Did you complain when they sanctioned Eddy H., Marion J., Mary Slaney? Didn't think so. Lance never complained about USADA when other cyclists had to face arbitration, did he?

The concept of WADA and USADA can be supported, while disagreeing proper processes were followed.

Well, the really strange thing about this unfair process* is that Armstrong's manager had a heavy role in designing the process.

*unfair except in the eyes of the Supreme Court, Congress, and the Presidency. Employed in millions of private arbitrations.
