I'm sure the poster I was referring to was not speaking of the Vigil days... Usual as in the 1980s is not usual as in the last 5 years.

A few good years here and there are great for Western. They had it good at nationals for about 5-6 years there, but Adam's overall XC history is far superior to Western's. Sorry. Besides it takes more than one good race a year to call your self tougher. Try running a whole season. Take both men and women over all the races of all time and Adams is far tougher.
Just because One teams beats another a few times early in the year doesn't mean they are better or "tougher." Maybe one team has a 110 mile week with a tough workout on Thursday, whereas the other team has a 95 mile week with a M/W workout. doesn't matter early in the year.
Do you think Adams doesn't training hard? Do you think they win meets because they are not fit or tough? No one at Western is running 110 these days, If they ever did. Reguardless, you only get judged on the racing performance....no one cares how hard you "trained" during the season. Still it is Adams that trains through the RMAC meet while Western "mini peak's" for it each year. Adams dominated Western for 20 years from the mid 70's through the mid 90's. Western has only consistantly won from 1999 though 2005..they lost badly in 2003. Five years of winning, with a couple other titles along the way, doesn't make Western tougher. Adams has over twice as many National Championships as Western over 40 years. No men's title for Western since 05 and no women's since 02. I think the tide has swung back Adams way.
The Vigil days are a large part of the RMAC history. If you are refering to the Vandenbusche days they too are over. Most likely you only think of the 5 years Aish was at Western. Typical of a small mind. Where have all the good men gone? Well I guess you will have to get by with what you have. Western will now to battle it out with Mines for 5th.
The last 5 years? '03 we beat you, '04 and '05 you beat us, '06 we beat you, '07 we tied . I don't see a dominant Western team there. This year it is obvious.
Who owns all the records for distance events at the Western track? Adams. We set most of them in 06. Tougher? you don't even own your own track records.
was merely pointing out who was tougher when bad condition arose.
Lets remember I gave adams credit for being really good and I also said they will win hands down this year.
can somebody please explain to me why every conversation comes down to western v adams? Who cares about 5 years ago, or 20 years ago, what about now. Adams is going to beat Western this year, lets move on to a new subject...how close of a battle will the adams v abilene?
I think ACU's got Adams. Im a fan of neither but ACU wins 55-60 followed by Harding with 60-65
What about some northeastern schools? Southern CT. seems to be pretty good.

i second this opinion....go make a new thread, Western vs. Adams, the rest of us don't care.
what is the best all-american team? no foreigners....
The vast majority of the national championships teams (men and women) from Adams State have had no foreigners. Besides, it's a weak argument. Very few programs in the country (D2 or D1) have been able to succeed without some reliance on foreign athletes.
Well, I don't think foreigners per se has anything much to do with it. But the best teams that are built around 'normal' college age kids are Adams, Chico, Grand Valley, and Western. This is of course all to varying degrees.
Western's most successful years came when they had a squad of older more experienced runners leading the team, but that isn't to say they don't develop the youngsters. Adams has had a mix over the years as well. As much as I can tell, Chico and Grand Valley seem to be this way to the greatest extent (all normal college age kids).
Adams has 4 foreigners
1 kenyan
1 french
2 english
A majority of DII thought Western and Adams would have little impact in 1992 when they joined. You may not care either, but most of the time you are getting your a-- handed to you by one or the other. While most of you other schools whine about rankings and afterparty's the RMAC is consistantly getting the job done.

And 24 guys from the U.S. What's your point?
that some of the other schools have 0 (zero) foreigners and that some of those foreigners make up their TOP 7. 24 American kids who werent developed into top 7 for Adams.
Damon Martin has developed more Americans to All-America status than most if not all D2 coaches.
The reason northeast schools don\'t get brought up is because they are simply not on the same level. The kenyan-south teams and the rmac and teams from the west make up the big chunk of the top teams, a few midwest teams sneak into the top 15 every year, but never challenge for any of the big spots. Hell, it seems every year northeast teams get high rankings, then have to race the big boys and get smashed.
As for how to make a great team, you need 2 bluechip recruits(that run sub 9/4.17 or close to it, 1 hometown(or close to it) kid that runs 100+ miles a week and races tough, 2 more low 16 HS types, and 1-2 mercenaries(africans/kiwis/europeans/whatever/d1 transfers)
That\'s how I\'d do it anyway ;)
we get smashed and never get anyone the top 15?
1.get your effin facts straight 2.even if your facts are straight, at least we aint friggin spending no money going to africa/new zealand and outterspace to recruit runnners just to help win team championships.the truth is, most of the top schools in d2 are doing well cuz of MONEY. "buy runners, win championships" thats should be the team motto for most of you letsrun posters who brag left and right about how good your team is.
Wrong,
The teams that usually do well, minus ACU, are usually dirt cheap schools that have some money to throw around. There are several schools in the NE with plenty of grants and academic scholarships to still bring in really good talent. The difference is when a school is dirt cheap to begin with, they will have a recruiting edge based on that.
For the NE schools, you have to recruit that many more athletes to find the ones who financial aid packages will work out. On top of that, you need to do an awesome job to develop some of the non-scholarship athletes. 10 flat guys can turn into studs - it just takes time.
To beat an Adams, an ACU or a Chico type team, you just have to do everything better than you are doing now. Chico and Adams are dirt cheap. ACU spends loads of scholarship, athletic and others.
Don't bitch, get er done.
