Everyone is acting like Fisher's strategy was dumb as can be, but he lost by an inch! He was this close to winning, and then no one would have bat an eye at his strategy. His strategy was enough to dispatch Mehary, Almgren, et al. Just not quite enough for Gressier (who saw that coming?).
I am not at all convinced that had he gone with 220 to go he would have won, there are just as many instances of someone going too early and then someone else who was more patient overtakes them at the end. It's a toss up.
The only criticism I can understand is that he somehow let in Gressier and Mehary on his inside which pushed him out pretty wide. But again, it's a difficult game to stay on the inside but also not get boxed in. Much easier said than done.
He was in second with 300 to go and it seemed he was going to pass. But somehow ended in lane 3 with 100 to go. He let those 2 guys push him and pass him on the inside. What people are saying is that his strategy is always good enough to dispatch most other runners, but never to win when it counts. Not dumb as can be, but it keeps costing him a victory.

His strategy was great until 250m to go. But he can NOT let Almgren get the position on him. He is strong enough to lead for 200 meters. He is not quick enough to be sure he can run down everyone in the last 100.
I assure you that Olympic golf and tennis don't have unlimited entries per country.
Track has meets with and without team entries, this same as gold and tennis.
Thoughts...leader?
Are we talking about the Olympics, bud? Every other golf or tennis competition that isn't explicitly a team competition doesn't put on country limits. That includes the majors, the tour championships.
Relevant comparisons, bud:
Team entries:
Davis Cup (tennis), Ryder Cup (golf), Olympics and WC (all sports)
Individual entries:
Diamond League (track), Grand Slam (tennis), PGA Tour (gold)
Fisher has run a lot of races starting with indoor 2025...his legs probably just do not have the spring in them that they had a couple of months ago. Dump indoor track!!!
