Some of these “quotes” are completely out of context. He talked about the possibility of winning WSER after Javelina but has also been pretty clear about how he knew the chances were slim. Before Jim dropped he openly said he thought he had less than an 1% chance. Essentially he was talking about taking a shot at winning, not saying that he was the best. All this stuff about how he “talked a big game” is a little overblown too.
I get some of the criticism but most people seem like they’re seeking out reasons to hate by cherry-picking quotes.
Yeah seems like a general health anxiety thing, or at least that's their first theory on it. Which is rough. Can't be many pursuits that match worse with health anxiety than ultrarunning.
