Official 1,000 mile WR attempt by Nedd Brockman live discussion thread. Can he break the 10 day, 10 hours record?

Nedds uncomfortable challenge is registered as a company - ABN as per what you have noted.
Was registered on 3 May 2024.
Haven’t done a paid search so not sure on directors or shareholders.

Yes it's a registered business in Australia but it is not a registered charity . It will not have to show its financial records to the public as it is not a charity and that is where the donations are going

Seems correct that the Nedd's company is not a registered charity. However, Nedd's uncomfortable website states all donations are DGR eligible and donors receive a receipt so presumably the donations are directly to We Are Mobilise who will provide the DGR receipt and not to the Nedd's company. I doubt anyone would fake DGR receipts.

I haven't donated and I can't verify this is what is happening, the link to the terms and conditions also 404's which is a bad look.

The donations being direct to We Are Mobilise would seem to me to be the sensible way to handle donations, rather than double handling the money through Nedd's company. I suspect Nedd's company will take your personal info along the way and use that for future marketing and promotion purposes though.

Yes i also got the 404 message which should be where this info is disclosed. Without a doubt most of people's donations will make it to mobolise . I suspect neds company will take their expenses and pass on the rest,the amount I was told from someone was 10% however I can not confirm this as truth. I have emailed the ancn to confirm what's going on here

Will Cockerell. You might want to read how wrong Cockerell was publicly accusing the last transcon runner of pilfering donations and Cockerell had to shamefully retract his accusations in private.

More than happy to publicly apologise if iv said anything untrue. Nothing iv said can be considered even slightly true and I do hope no one thinks it is. I'm only raising concerns and I have asked the Australian body concerning fund raising for clarification. I will post back their response. Regardless of all that ned is certainly one of Australia's best ultra runners with his effort.

I would be surprised if he takes anything from donations even to cover expenses as he's well sponsored and probably doesn't need it

I don't think Will Goodge deserves to be spoke of in the same breath as Nedd tbf. Clearly dodgy.

So it looks like he went through the 6 day mark in a little over 860km... does anyone have the exact figure? That's well short of Sandra Barwick's Australasian 6 day record of 883km. I mention Sandra because she has a 1000 mile best of 12 days 14hours 38mins which was - and might still be - the women's world record. Given the result after 6 days it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that if Ned did run the full 1000 miles his time would be at least a few hours slower than Sandra's. It sounds like he won't be running the full distance though and this will just be a 10 day thing.

Anyone know what his km's were for day 6. On face value I'm guessing around 100km since 5pm yesterday?

Sandra's Australasian record is the women's record of course. The men's one being held by the late great Bryan Smith (1002 km).

It looks like Bryan Smith still holds the Australian 1000 mile record too - 11 days 23hours where apparently every day of the event was between 33 and 38 degrees celsius. What a legend! I remember when he passed during the trans Australia race... I guess a couple of our fellow posters on here would have some emotional memories of this since they were a part of that race... May his memory live on.

860km is quite admirable for 6 days.

Nedd's about 168km down on Yiannis' 6 day split of 1028km from when he set the 1000 mile record. Given he ended the first day 71km behind Yiannis, he's done really well to only slip about 20km/day over the subsequent five days.

He's 100km behind his overly ambitious race plan, but however this pans out over remaining days, I'd still rate it a commendable performance for a young runner on the back of some dodgy promotion and organisation.

Previously I mentioned Cliff Young's time in the inaugural Sydney to Melbourne as a reference point in Aussie ultrarunning.

Cliffy covered the 870km in 5 days 15 hours, so Nedd is about 50km or 10 hours behind that. Of course, Nedd is still looking a challenge akin to turning around and running back to Sydney.

This has all been grist to the mill for my Balenger and Goodge research. The graphic struggle, the constant state of alarm and the decline that will only get worse.

WG and RB only ever get better on their runs, with no suffering and nothing ever going wrong and all off a heart rate of 105 [running up and down mountains], without a tracker, and firing off 9 miles in 80 late in days. Always with enormous negative splits. Such a sick state of affairs.

But WG knows to never try anything like that again so is stuck with brutal ultras where he can't cheat, like the Cali 100 [dnf after 60] and now Moab 240. Errrr, good luck with that.

But this is what authentic multidaying is all about and of course I applaud Nedd for that - I just hated comparing himself to Kouros to get clicks, publicity, endorsements and adulation. So very slippery.

It'll be a long 4 days this and we'll really see what he's made of starting from around now.

For some perspective on Sandra Barwick's performances, her 1000 mile performance was a split in the Sri Chinmoy 1300 Mile, which she finished in 17 days 22 hours.

The splits of note in that performance were 6 Days in 804km and 1000km in 7 days 16 hours. It will be interesting to see how Nedd is tracking against the latter.

Amazing, so he's hours behind the Australian women's record, and 100 miles behind the world record. But all his fans say 'he's built different'.

You have to remember being built different can also include going to the mill harder than other people. I reckon at this point, Nedd is likely more farked than Yiannis or Cliff, but is still moving despite looking like sh*t. That's built different too.

He could've prepared properly, and had a realistic goal.
