I’m sure the mom and pop shops tend to fail because of companies like Walmart and Amazon, essentially the power of the ultra rich. I’m sure it’s possible to govern small businesses differently than we govern huge corporations.
Wal-Mart sells the same items as the mom and pop shop for half the price.
The poor benefit directly when Wal-Mart shows up in their neighborhood.
Wal-Mart started out as a mom and pop shop.
Amazon was a tiny internet book seller run out of Jeff Bezos's garage. He didn't make any money for like 10 years when he started.
Why do you assume every successful person or business started on the mountain top?
Amazon started at the birth of the internet. It was a lot of right place right time. Not saying it was easy, but luck had a part. There aren’t always going to be extremely high upside economic opportunities like the birth of the internet.
Walmart started in the 60s and it’s true that innovation was a large part of why it was so successful, but now there’s absolutely no way that a mom and pop shop will ever compete again. The ladder has been pulled up behind. It’s a different world now than it was in the 60s and 70s
To add on to that. Walmart and Amazon have basically caused the death of small town america. Jobs get taken and displaced by big corporations that resource out to commercial farms and producers.
so it’s not necessarily a good thing that prices are cheaper if you lose your job or have a lower income job
Still a moron in the room who doesn't remember anything about newt gingrich
Gingrich's republican majority forced Clinton to moderate. It was very successful for Clinton and the country.
Divided governments don't do as many stupid things.
It used to work this way. I'm afraid that now Democrats will block any sensible Republican legislation and Republicans will block any sensible Democrat legislation.
Yes. You are delusional, and the fact that you doubled down on that statement shows you know nothing about how House and midterm elections go. I'm not even going to try to explain it to you, because you have shown in the past that you are incapable of learning.
Democrats keeping the Senate and MAYBE losing the House by a very thin margin means that Republicans got sh!tcanned. If you don't believe me, go listen to your Trumper cohorts on Fox, in the New York Post, in comments on Breitbart's site. Republicans know that they lost big time here. Don't give me crap about being a Libertarian either. You support current nutbar Republican ideals. You support Donald Trump. You are trying to cling to any delusion that this was a good election for Republicans. It wasn't.
You sure have a lot to say for someone who knows and understands so little.
Adopting your opinions isn't learning it's regressing.
Republicans underperforming doesn't mean Democrats won. You literally lost the House and Biden is a lame duck with zero power for the next 2 years.
If you think that's a good thing for your party you are mistaken.
Wow, you REALLY don't understand how things work. Don't know if you are a football fan or not, but here's an analogy for you. Democrats just punted and pinned Republicans on their one one-yard line. Yes, if Republicans DO take over The House they will be on offense, but they have a LONG way to go, and the seats that went to and stayed with Democrats just make it all the more difficult for Republicans next time.
Midterms is when the big balance of power swings happen. Didn't happen this time.
Ya got sh!tcanned. Gonna be done with you for now. I won't converse with a crazy person forever.
I agree with you. I don't recall any of my kids' teachers discussing their private lives with them and I never discussed my private life with my students. But why did you bring this up?
I didn't bring the law up Alan did.
The law was intended to prevent teachers discussing their sex lives with children because they were doing it.
Now here is someone who has absolutely no idea what the Parental Rights in Education Act is all about. I don't care if you're for it or against it but you're clueless as to the content.
Now quick, run off to the googly thing and come up with some wording you can post which will have you think you have an understanding of the bill and how it relates to what you posted.

Oh...did you know you got sh!tcanned? Ya did.
The Bears were favored to beat the Lions by 30 points.
The Bears won the game by 15 points.
You are a Lions fan spiking the football and declaring yourself the victor because you didn't lose by 30.
You still lost.
Or as you and your buddies behind the bushes at the truck stop say "you still got sh!tcanned".

Bezos wasn't "lucky," he was the smartest and most innovative entrepreneur at the time. He wasn't the only one trying to make a business off the internet at that time, he was just able to outcompete his competitors.
5) Good luck kicking him out of office. Going to be VERY hard to do that in the 2024 election, and there's not chance of an impeachment unless he does something in the future that warrants that...which he won't.
4) Agreed. Several regulars on this board have posted about dealing with relatives who were afflicted with dementia. I hope the rest of the posters never have to do that, but suffice it to say that there is a substantial difference between someone who's been diagnosed and JRB. He's not there, and not close. Yet.
5) You may be right here, too. If the GOP had taken the House by a more substantial margin, say 30 or 40 seats, I think impeachment--for something or other--would have been a foregone conclusion: The Trumpists have made clear in public statements that they want payback for the Trump impeachments. But as it stands, looks like the GOP's House majority will be razor thin, and that may make McCarthy much more wary: He can't afford to *start* impeachment proceedings without the assurance of a majority behind him, and if a mere handful of GOP reps declined to impeach for BS charges (which, so far, is all that would be available), then the effort would fail. That said: Remember that impeachment is fundamentally a political, not legal, action. "High crimes and misdemeanors" are whatever a House majority says they are.
It is talked about in elementary schools and it is wrong. Hence the legislation. Glad to see boomers like you who support sexual orientation instruction in kindergarten.
Show me an approved lesson plan?
Alan
The burden of proof is on you to explain why the law is wrong.

For Jeff Bezos, growing a little online bookseller into e-commerce giant Amazon took hard work and ingenuity, but it also took something else: luck. "Amazon is one of the lotteries I won," Bezos said.

Regarding No. 5, I was responding to someone who implied Biden would be "kicked out" of office. Impeachment is one thing. Conviction in the Senate, as we all know (probably not TAITR though), is yet another thing. Even IF Republicans had taken The House by a ton of seats, The Senate is in the hands of Democrats, and no way would they get enough votes there to convict...not on anything they want to try to impeach him for now.

He doesn't understand anything. It's quite amazing. I tend to think that he and Sally are the same person, but I do admit to a bias there as I just can't image there are two such stupid people posting on the same message board...but that is where I fail...I too often give people the benefit of the doubt when I shouldn't. I suppose it IS possible there are two such stupid people here.

If a 6 year old asks a teacher about sex the correct answer is "Ask your parents".
The bill specifies that parents should make these decisions not teachers.
TAITR (TheAdultInTheRoom) became a Catholic to get a woman. He has no principles that he won’t sacrifice the moment he perceives it is in his self-interest. He says he is not a Republican because he is too much of a raging (and he has been raging a lot lately) Narcissist to acknowledge that he is a sheep who is no different than the millions of empty headed kool-aid drinkers who would swear allegiance to anything to finally get whet they want, as he proved in his marriage.
Not cool to attack someone's spirituality. Few of you are having a discussion and a lot of you are just attacking to attack.
TAITR has no “spirituality.” You must be a bit slow. He converted to Catholicism so he could get a woman. Now he is attacking Democrats because he is easily influenced by Fox News and various empty headed talk show hosts. He has no thoughts of his own.

I have taken sh*ts more spiritual than you.
The most vapid people in the country are on your side...
Raging about my marriage isn't going to help you find a man.

So you finally googled the answer and figured it out. Good. See how what you posted earlier isn't the crux of the bill? It's also a lot more complicated than what's written in the article if you're a teacher but you're not bright enough to get the nuance.
I also posted nothing weighing whether I agreed with the bill or not. For the most part, this particular issue probably played less into the recent election cycle than the major shift is registered voters going from a majority Democrat to a majority Republican possibly from the migration of residents to the state, DeSantis keeping the state open (at least earlier) during Covid and his performance during the hurricane Ian.

What is my side? I am not a Democrat? What is my side? By the way, you do not have a job. Dude get a job. Or are you disabled?

So in your view Republicans swept the school board elections prior to the hurricane because of DeSantis' response to the hurricane.
