Tom “Tinman” Schwartz and Drew Hunter/Tinman Elite have parted ways

Do they give mullets, dye hair blonde for punk 80s rocker look, etc? Coach Tinman should get the same haircut Mr Gusman has in the YouTube video and it would get a lot of hits I would think.

My guess on reading Tammy’s post was that the unnamed friend of Drew’s has to be Cory Leslie. Others seem to insinuate that too.

While I feel bad for Tom, I don’t necessarily blame a 25 year old for making a drastic change when things weren’t where he wanted them and being immature about it- most 25 year olds are a-holes. To me, a mid 40s adult, I think early to mid 20s are still kids.

Only thing i dislike here is them going by Tinman Elite, which I assume they’ll stop.

Did Coach Tinman advise them to avoid indoor stores like Target even with a mask on? Given the covid case rate in Boulder in the “very high risk” range, prob not a risk I’d take if I were a Middle Aged dude like Coach Tinman (not sure how old he is). If we assume each store visit the risk is independent and you visit stores like that daily, the risk is not that low. For 20somethings not that big of a deal but the case rate in the area still bad. All it takes is maskless yahoos from Weld County commuting to Boulder to visit the Target store, cough and have that sh*t sit in the air for an hour (New England Journal of Med study showed it stays in the air up to 3hrs)

Also, something I noticed...the #stopthesteal batsh*t crazy Trump protestors who were stationed at the corner of 28th and Pearl St last November to December (when covid cases were at their peak in Boulder) do not wear masks and take bathroom breaks inside the Boulder Target with no masks on. There was no enforcement at the front of the Target store (boulder county health signs requiring face coverings didn’t deter them from coming right in)

I think there has been more insinuation that it was Parsons. He runs the marketing operation for Tinman Elite and had a lot of control of the merch drops.

Does anyone know if it's significant that Parsons and Gusman only raced under ADIDAS for Drake relays and not Adidas/Tinman Elite? Reed raced the 5k as well and was listed as Adidas/Tinman Elite. Just curious.

What will Gusman do with his Tinman tattoo when this all ends?

There is a difference between responsible reporting and throwing a half-baked story to an anonymous crowd of bullies.

This has nothing to do with "facts" or journalism, rojo. It has all to do with generating views and profiting from controversy. The more controversial, the more clicks, the more money you make. This strategy works nicely when people discuss shoes. It is irresponsible when it exposes people to baseless character attacks.

The fact that one of the people affected feels obliged to respond to this gossip is not a win for free speech. It is testimony to a business model that exposes people for other people's entertainment to generate clicks.

In its current form, LRC is a business that thrives on bullying, polarizing, and the occasional sincere contribution. At least own up to it and take responsibility, but stop hiding behind "reporting" and "free speech."

I am Tinman's wife and I don't use social medial that much because I have better things to do in my life.......but there comes a time when you need to post the truth to stop all the BS., especially if it involves my family. Some people can't handle the truth. I challenge any of the Tinman Elite runners , Drew Hunter, Momma Hunter and anyone associated with the decision to get rid of my husbands coaching services via a phone call (not in person) , to clearly give my him a reason why. I listened to the phone call from Connor when he told my husband his services were no longer needed several weeks ago. He has yet been given a reason. My whole point of what I posted is you don't cut ties with someone in your organization the way you guys did. It was wrong. Just out of the blue with a phone call. Done. Bye! I also know for a fact someone on your team still wanted Tom to coach them. Of course I'm sure you boys told him, if you do you are done with this team and monetary support. Talk about coercion.

Why are you still listing him as your Head Coach on your website and using his name? Why are you still using his training methods in your modified version? Why are you still selling merchandise with his name? Why are you selling training plans using his methods? Read your website guys. Update your website and change your name. The name represents my husband not you. Tom was well known before your group was even created. You represent "Coach Tinman"...you can't argue with that because your website, podcasts, videos, magazine articles & anything out in media tells the story of your running group. what are you talking about? The article Rojo ran was respectful and neutral and LetsRun reached out to both parties for comment. That's about as good of a job as any journalist can do.

In fact my only criticism is that Rojo deleted threads at all. I get that the rules are different for a website (and frankly, there are no "rules" for journalists, only codes of honor) but you can't just sit on a story like that and cover it up. It's one thing to sit on a story and wait for the right time to release it, but it's another to attempt to cover up the news before it's published.

It becomes a rock and a hard place type thing in this scenario. Option #1 is to sit on story and let threads run free and try to ignore the obvious. Option #2 is to sit on story and delete threads. Both options result in backlash at the expense of trying to protect the story and those involved. Rojo really had no choice in this case and did the right thing, it just gets more complicated when you also run a message board.

How obtuse can you be? The news was already out. LRC confirmed it. It’s a plain fact. They did their job.

There’s a time and place to call out sensationalizing the news. This isn’t one of them.

This would be an issue if any of them had a snowball's chance in hell of making the Olympic team.

With the caveat that this not inside information, I am surprised it took so long for people to make this connection. Leslie was clearly Hunter's guy and did not match the Tinman ethos. Honestly it is pretty impressive how he was able to pivot from coaching a team that got dead last in Pac 12 XC to heading a popular fledgling pro team in one year. He was able to convince a group of guys to ditch a coach who coaches them for little money and that their team is named after, and it only took six months. If his time helming this group doesn't work out he should go into sales.

A lot of Tinman's personal history, going back years, is lamenting that coaching gigs often go to people based on how fast they used to run, not their actual coaching credentials. He has always had a chip on his shoulder as a coach because of the natural bias from not being a very fast runner and rightfully so. Tom goes to tons of talks and clinics and has encyclopedic knowledge about ex phys and running history. Whatever you think about him personally or as a coach, he has earned his status as a prominent coach.

Now he has had a guy with no real coaching credentials usurp control of his team from him. That probably doesn't sit well with Tinman, especially after moving his family and helping the Hunters as much as he did. Rojo wants to say there is no drama but that is only true if you ignore how he was canned. The "why" can be debated but the "how" seems unprofessional if not heartless.
