They live abroad in a low cost of living country, which probably means they don't need to make as much as other YouTubers. There are two running YouTubers with small to mid sized channels that live abroad and do it full time. Sagasu is the other one. It's an interesting business model.
Does Sagasu like in Thailand or Cambodia? He looks that type
I don't know why more shoetubers don't do this! Ben Parks could have a way nicer lifestyle. My colleagues uncle retired to Phuket and lives in a lovely house with a pool. Bet he pays way less than Ben's flat in london

Now that him and his mrs have broken up (if previous posts in this thread are to be believed), maybe that's what he'll do next! He always goes on about Spain.
Come on then, let’s have it. Todays discussion is peoples opinions on the following ‘influencers’ and their channel:
THIS MESSY HAPPY
They have a video on how to determine your threshold HR which they do by taking their average HR from the last 3km of an all out 5k time trial. Clueless. A few videos later they absolutely implode their threshold sessions.
Speaking of UK YouTubers looking to run the London Marathon - we've got a new entrant here with Alex Yee who uploaded his first ever Youtube video. I'm very curious to see what he can do as an Olympic-level (and Olympic distance) triathlete.

Saw him on Paula's podcast. The day before a 30k at marathon pace work out. The guy is crazy talented and seems very humble and smart. To polar opposite of a Bester or Felton
It seems that the long-rumored ShoeTube recession has arrived. From the description of the latest Believe in the Run Podcast:

MICHAEL BONSBY HVAC We talk a lot about performance and recovery—but let’s be real, if your home’s not comfortable, neither is your training. That’s why we teamed up with Michael Bonsby HVAC, a local Maryland legend and part of the Zephyr Home Services crew. They helped us out big time, and now they’re offering Believe in the Run listeners $50 off any service or new install. Spring is almost here, so get ready to elevate your cool down after this summer’s hottest runs. They’ve got you covered, so book your service now at www.michaelbonsbyhvac.com
As much as I love ragging on them, I hope they don't lose their jobs. The above isn't a great sign though.
I wonder how much of it is running-specific vs overall macro uncertainty amid the tariff stuff. I have to imagine marketing spend at companies everywhere is going to be tightened up
We're in this weird situation where London Marathon Events own:
- London
- Brighton
- Newport
And all happen within 3 weeks of each other. There's also Manchester Marathon which is arguably now the 2nd best marathon in the UK (for running fast).
I know that when you miss out on a London GFA or ballot entry there's instant offers for LME's other events... but it's so odd that one of the events hasnt been changed to Autumn? There's no marathons in the UK that are decent (inb4 Abingdon, its on footpaths and looks absolutely farmers league) for running fast, but arguably 4 options within a few weeks in spring.
At the same time, if London, Brighton and Newport all sell out then there's no incentive for LME to move events - but it's certainly an oddity.
I was actually thinking the other day that Manchester should be an autumn marathon. Chester is fast(ish) and is in the autumn but nothing else
Chester, my home city, is good autumn marathon event but does have some punchy hills.
Don't slag off any of the recent winning times, as it'll offended me (humble brag, as I'm one of the).
Theres also the Metric - 26.2k race same day (won that too, outright brag there).

They don't seem to hawk s**t like KetoneIQ and socks (Ben is selling style). Rather, their social media seems to funnel people into their coaching programs. They are now full-time coaches.
Personally I find this far more annoying than shilling for random products. Influencers who are all of a sudden coaches just because they have attained a small online following.

I think it's both. The macro uncertainty is driving people to buy less and be more strategic in their purchases. I'm jazzed I found a Nike Pegasus for $80 in some college team's colors. I hope to get 500 miles out of that shoe. I didn't need a pair of new daily trainers, my Cliftons have 200-250 miles left in them (I generally get 400-500 miles). I didn't buy the new Clifton or even the old one on discount because I wanted to keep it under a hundred bucks.
If that's the behavior of most customers, it's going to be a really tough couple years for the running industry. Especially if prices increase due to tariffs while wages stagnate. It'll be really, really hard to justify spending $200+ on a pair of racing flats in that environment. Or really, even spending several hundred bucks to sign up for a marathon. The result is, if people are racing less they're running less and maybe just abandoning running. $20 app subscriptions? The growth industry in the next few years will be apps that unsubscribe you from all your other apps subscriptions. Running club dues? Pretty easy to justify cutting that.
Maybe Park Run keeps enough people running that trainers still sell. But I suspect people will hold out for deals on shoes that bring them to pre tariff prices.
And so in that environment you have the running shoe companies looking at the influencer culture of luxury trips and looking at how out of touch it makes them seem to people who just lost their job. The ideal marketing for a running brand would be, "In a world out of control, you can still control your running and make you day better. Adidas Duramo SL from $35." Or whatever. But watching Kofuzi in Italy and Kenya and London and Houston and Boston and New York and Tokyo and Budapest and Eugene and Atlanta and Duluth over and over just makes people feel crappy and alienates them.

Based on last year, one of few autumn options and super shoes, I recon you'll need at least sub 2:20 from now on to win it. Still a viable option for a fast (e.g Cole) YTber to win it.
Theres another hill in Farndon (mile 15ish) which if you've gone out too quick is brutal (it's short but very sharp).

Yes but that's over really quickly, few seconds and it's gone even for hobby joggers like myself.
It's probably not attracted the very fast runners with its proximity to Berlin. Its my closest marathon,I need to get back to doing it again.
