Jason Saretsky, the Harvard Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, has hired Fletcher Brooks to join his staff as an assistant coach of the throws group for
This is why Shayla left the distance job. She knew the director was going to leave and she would be out. Hopefully the new distance coach is OK with being at USSB this year only.
The new coach is legit and is a good guy and will be there awhile. The program will definitely improve.
Shayla on the other hand will be bouncing around looking for her "Dream" gig after she wears out her welcome in Iowa. Probably should spend more time on trying to be a better coach. FYI, the UCSB AD leaving had nothing to do with Shayla leaving unless they were buddies and she knew the new AD might realize she's not that good of a coach. If you're good you shouldn't be worried about being fired.
Was not too long ago Shayla usually had a team or at least individuals at worst at NCAA’s off a couple men’s scholarships and not dramatically more than that on the women’s side, then Robyne Johnson brought in “her own people,” and now the local DIII’s and some JUCO’s are kicking Cal’s a$$. And yes, they still have money in distance there.

When a new director comes in he or she will clean house and being in their own people. That’s the only way to do it.

Uhhh check out Cal's results at Dellinger and get back to us. They're getting better. PS I had no problem with Shayla either.

Ah. I see they got Santa Barbara & Davis’ number…could probably take Chico on now? Give it another year and they’ll be breathing down Riverside’s necks.

You do realize that Chico is significantly better than UCR right? Like not close. Cal, SB, Davis are nowhere close either. Those schools are also behind Azusa Pacific (D2) and Pomona Pitzer (D3) right now. CA D1 programs need to get their act together. Stanford, CBU and SLO are the only ones operating at a D1 level. After them D2 and D3 schools are best in the west. I'd add Pomona to that list as well.

Come on, Chico is not significantly better than UCR. In fact they are not better than them. Chico always does this, they run fast at short courses early in the season and don't do much at the end when it counts. You're spitting little knowledge.

It's because UC's have decided they do not care about athletics. So their AD's have made strategic decisions not to fund their distance programs (and often the entire track and field program) at a DI level - putting maybe 1-2 scholarships into the men and 3 - 4 scholarships into the women at most, paying the head coach minimum wage, no paid distance assistants, tiny travel budget (since the AD knows they can hit sport sponsorship numbers without ever driving more than a couple hours) etc. Then you consider most UC students actually have a future after running & you can see why they prioritize other things when they're getting their a$$es kicked anyway.
I am a senior in college looking to become a coach after I finish are there any coaches that would be willing to do an informational interview within the next week with me? This is for a senior seminar class.

"spitting little knowledge"? Ok, Mr Knowledge, when's the last time a UCR men's team has beaten a Chico team? Also, you should look at Chico's post-season record a bit more closely. And agreed that CP Pomona and Pitzer are formidable CA programs as well. I don't think that Pomona or Chico have much scholarship either.. and we know that Pitzer doesn't.

First thing I want to say is Gary is a great coach. He has done a tremendous job building a program there.
That said, aren't a good many of the people on the program there getting financial aid due to financial hardship? Maybe not athletic scholarships but still not paying full boat for school.
If I am wrong please let me know but what I have written above is how I understand it to be.
