People disparage coaches who change positions, but where is the anguish for coaches who are sent packing when a new head coach takes over and cleans house?

West is on like his 8th job in 9 years. How many of those changes were due to a new coach cleaning house. I believe that number is 0.

DI coach here and I am absolutely in agreement with Coaches Network here. Look, Coaching is a fickle profession and job openings that are a perfect match for what the coach really want are rare- so we take what we can get, do our best with the athletes there and try to bring in some talent and leave the program with some value for our time. When another position opens up that is a “better fit” we need to take it or else we might spend a career working for a place that is just “ok”. Not our favorite place to live, not the best pay, and not the best scholarship situation.

Climbing the coorperate latter usually only involves one or two ladders and is a very normal thing. The coaching ladder is actually multiple ladders and spread out a bit- shouldn’t be frowned upon and athletic departments understand this well- thus annual contracts are the norm and not multi year deals.

Athletes are getting coaches supplied for them and good ones usually, since the profession is getting very competitive, so coaches need to look after themselves and their families no matter how many stops that takes along the way.

University of Alaska Anchorage has a sprints/jumps/hurdles/multis assistant coaching position posted. It pays well and Anchorage has good resources - facility, scholarships, and travel. The city/state are really cool too. If you are outdoorsy and adventuresome, I'd strongly recommend applying!

You call yourself a Longhorn alumni? One that spinelessly bashes your former teammates, school and coaches under the umbrella of an anonymous poster name that is too cheap to even buy a subscription to be a registered user? I simply asked if anyone on this board had some insight on who would coach jumps/multis, and get the opportunity to work with these great NCAA qualifiers, and you took it upon yourself to publish such vile comments- many hurtful. As a self-respecting man, why don’t you come introduce yourself to me and my family at the next meet- or at least put your real name out there and not hide anonymously. Or- shoot me an email, as I am a registered user. Also, for the benefit of anyone that proudly calls themselves a Longhorn, keep your freaking mouth shut unless you have something supportive to say about Texas and these hard-working young people. Listen here D1 coach, heres another D1 Coach, 20+ years at this level and you’re right but exaggerating the point. This guy going to another school every year is his prerogative. But it’s clear that he’s not leaving each year for him and his family. He is playing the game and not proving himself. I personally don’t respect the way he’s gone about his career, but he’s one coach in a sea of coaches. If he’s a good coach UT will do some major things. I have a feeling he won’t be leaving there anytime soon unless he’s canned
