Poster said a week ago that Idaho head job would be announced this week. Seems to not be the case. Possible that when all the finalists were made offers they each turned job down hearing low salary for head and for assistants.

Weird sentence for a job description.
There is also a specific person in mind whenever a phrase like this gets written.
I'm just a PhD student at Idaho and post-collegiate runner, so I am around the athletic department and have some close personal relationships with people within the athletic department, including a member of the hiring committee for this position.
Without dropping names or being too specific, here is what I know to be true: there was an on-campus interview last week and there are two on-campus interviews this week. Those 3 finalists include a current NAIA coach from a top distance program at that level, a current Division II coach from a national caliber program, and a former Division I coach who has been out of the game for a few years.
What I heard today, but don't know the reliability of, is that Idaho is hoping to announce the new coach on Monday, Nov. 4th. Whoever it is, I hope they keep letting me do workouts in the Kibbie Dome during the winter at my usual time.
I think I can guess the NAIA and D2 candidates. If I get it right can you give me some indication?

The team was told that they would be informed of the hiring committee's decision on Monday. Well, Monday came and went and the team hasn't been informed of anything... Not surprising, given how poorly this process has been handled by the administration.
Running community is small enough here, that minimal detective work would be needed to ID me, but I'll just go ahead and state that Nolan Ryan is a close friend of mine and I can confirm that he isn't a finalist for the job. And for the same reasons I know Nolan, I can also say that Mike Collins is also not a finalist for this job. Also not David Granato. NAIA guy is a PNW guy though and D2 guy is Midwest. The reason I won't be more specific than that is out of respect for the current programs those guys are with that are in the championship part of their XC seasons. Last thing college dudes need to be thinking about in November is their coach trying to leave.
This whole Idaho thing is wild. Wonder who's running the practices? There's so many groups there w/o coaches. I feel awful for the athletes, not fair to them.

On the distance side I'm pretty sure it's Nathan Stark running things in the interim -he ran for the team and had been volunteering with the team while getting his PhD at Idaho.
Nathan has been the interim coach for the distance group. I'm not sure the name of the guy who has been volunteering to help the throwers, but I've seen him out at the track with a group of them on Saturdays. And one of the jumpers who was a grad transfer last year has been helping out the jumpers this fall while finishing up his master's degree. The mess that the Idaho athletic department has made with this hiring process is inexcusable and so unfair to the athletes.

Idaho clearly does not care about cross country and track & field. It is likely their hire, whenever they get around to hiring someone, will further confirm this. Expect to be underwhelmed.
