Tariffs don't take "from the pockets of American people". I view a tariff as a surcharge to buy a foreign-made product. A small 10% surcharge will raise a great deal of money while being negligible in its impacts on consumers.

Did you know that property taxes are not actually taxes? They are a surcharge to owning a home. And that small surcharge (less than 1% on average in most states!) raises a great deal of money while being negligible in its impact on homeowners.
