2024 College Track & Field Open Coaching Positions Discussion

This is exactly what happened. Places that look good on paper may not have a program within a couple years. Places that book bad on paper right now might be the only way our profession survives in a couple years. Admins weren't looking to make big investments in coaches/programs not knowing what the NCAA will look like this time next year. Coaches went with the devil they knew instead of taking risks at a very risky time to be a non-revenue coach. Any non-P4 DI (mid major, G5, etc) or even traditionally non-competitive P4's (in revenue sports) with football to drown them looks VERY risky right now.

You do realize that it was a luxury not too many years ago to have more than two coaches on track and field staff. Plus, many places required the coaches to teach phys ed courses. The world of track and field has changed dramatically and will do so again, I suppose. A staff of 6-8 coaches for a non-revenue sport seems a real treat. I wonder how that will continue as athletes demand more and more pay to play.

Cleo will be fine, she supposedly has Greg Jack helping her out as a “consultant”. He’s an excellent coach, but unfortunately had a very toxic recent past.

Sounds like TJ? Don't blame him.... Idaho Admin are horrible. They haven't even started interviews yet??? One person on staff all fall!

Wasn’t him, but that’s another great prospect for them for sure. I’m not sure about the interviews, I know my guy spoke with admin but withdrew before an interview. They’re in a pickle though. Tough draw in October to get the kind of person you really want - maybe they’re hoping for someone post XC season? I really don’t know at this point.

I feel for the sole staff member, gotta be tearing their hair out trying to keep the team sane.

Any updates on the Arkansas women's distance job? Are they going after someone big time, or someone who will be a yes man to the Johnsons?

I would imagine it will for sure be a female hire. I’m not sure who will fit that mold, but maybe buckman has the pull to get his daughter the position if he and johnson are on good terms. These type of positions are hardly ever one you can actually interview for and they see you’re a great candidate for the job

Living in SF can be very expensive considering the inflation. The rents are crazy high. I don't think the salary range is good enough.

You can get a studio for about $1700, one bed for $2200-$2300, 2-bed for $2500-$2800.

$85000 is $7K per month. Not going to be rich but it’s livable. Two people making $80k plus would be pretty comfortable.

Doubt TJ would take Idaho, though it’s his Alma mater. he’s got a sweet gig now, much less stress, more time with the family.

Pre tax post tax are very different. After taxes it’s 5k a month. And then add on retirement and health insurance.

the joke of the us Ecconomy is relying on two people to make a situation livable. That should never be the case.
