How nice of them to put his race at the forefront….
So what happened with Reimer at San Jose State. Did she step down or was she pushed out? It was never announced.

Looks like they were dying to broadcast that part of the hire.

She was relieved of her duty.
Did SJSU discontinue their men's program for a period of time? Looking at their top boards they had a lot of great men from the 60s to 80's then vanished.

They did not put his race at the forefront…they put a first for the athletic department at the forefront.

We should all be able to agree that this was awkward at best and in very bad taste at worst (it very much cheapens the hire and regardless of his qualifications it makes it seem like they hired someone for a press release that some people wanted to see, for whatever reason).
There would never have been a post “first Asian hire, first blonde women, first person of Arab decent hired, first Jewish hire, first Italian hire” this was clearly an orchestrated agenda move. I hope he was consulted before posting that, would make it a tiny bit better.

Everyone that applied should file a lawsuit for discrimination against white people. The discovery process will yield tons of incriminating evidence of racial discrimination.
The hire was made before they posted the job.

Yes we agree. Your comment was awkward at best and in very bad taste at worst (it very much cheapens the historical realities of racial disparities in hiring processes in the US and regardless to your FEELINGS this hire is clearly of someone qualified.)
Now staying on jobs...whether YOU or any of your like minded ilk would not have hired this man, despite his qualifications, bc the school wants to acknowledge A FIRST, or not realize the added cultural resource he brings to your campus and the minority population, or even have the intellect to know it would be a school's first...than the right thing to do is to get off your tears, pull up your bootstraps and become an athletic director!
PS - Yes it would be a post and newsworthy if in 2021-2022...it was a school's FIRST Asian, Middle Eastern, Italian, or Jewish hire. However insulting a people's cultural makeup with a hair comparison is a clear indication of the lack of cultural knowledge you have (Most conscientious people recognize skin color is not the only part of an individuals race. Their culture also plays a part in it.)
First women, first Asian first whatever is always posted. It will never say first white dude as that’s been done everywhere. As for discrimination against white dudes come on. Your not getting jobs as your dumb enough to post this stupid crap on boards. I can imagine what your resume looks like? Do you even have interview skills or do you just play the victim?
Stop criticizing every hire that’s not you!
I am a coach and was in an interview for a new hire. Along with me were athletic administrator and an HR representative. After the interview and when the interviewee left the HR person stated that she was "different" than all of the others in the room. She was basically saying she is the only female. She went on to ask our plan to hire diverse coaches. We explained how we (me and two others on staff) networked and proactively reached out to try to identify diverse candidates. None with the qualifications of the person we were interviewing had applied.
So we tried for diversity but found a stronger candidate who like me and the other coaches are middle aged white men.
The irony in all of this is that we were essentially told to hire someone who looks "different than us". I was identified by three characteristics - white, male, middle aged. Hasn't it been established that in the past candidates for jobs were not pursued because of their race, gender, age. The irony is that we are now doing this. It is just we are doing it to a different group.
I believe in the value of diversity. I fully understand that I have lived advantages as a white male. However, now it seems I don't fit the part because of my race, gender, age. Wow. I thought we were trying to stop that kind of behavior.

First off, I don’t understand your last paragraph. What don’t you fit? I thought you are a coach? So you have a job and they are pretty much now telling you to recruit better. That should be right up your alley!
Secondly, “qualifications” can be very subjective because you are deciding what “qualities” are important. Your Administration is telling you diversity needs to be part of those qualifications. How diverse is your team?
Elliot is a great hire.
