Where should we draw the line then? At the High School National level? At the Collegiate level? At the Olympic Trials level? At the international competition level? At the Olympics? Whenever money or scholarships are involved?

And regarding the big picture with respect to artificial contraception, how has that gone? In the early 1960s in the USA, the out-of-wedlock pregnancy rate was about 5-7%, direct abortion was illegal in all 50 states, and artificial contraception consisted largely of either condoms or diaphragms. Then came the Sexual Revolution fueld by the widespread availability of artificial contraceptives including "the Pill" and other drugs. Now the out-of-wedlock pregnancy rate is about 41%, direct abortion is legal in all 50 states, and STDs rage. Sure, other variables changed, but it naive to think merely reductively and insist that more contraception is the answer when it failed spectacularly to fulfill its proponents' claims. Please shake the psychedelic dust from your bell bottoms.

And why is it unreasonable to oppose Embryonic Stem Cell Research (ESCR)? Is it not or will it not lead to creating human beings simply to harvest them and kill them? How do the embryos benefit from this and why should they not have rights? Is ESCR not Machiavellian? Has not Western Civilization thrived in large part because it opposed the whims and fancies of kings, queens and princes and instead adhered to the notion that one should not do evil so that good may come of it, or, put differently, that there must be a good means to a good end, and not merely a good end? And how much money has been poured into ESCR? What therapies have resulted? I have heard of female lab workers being forced to donate eggs and I fear that the advocates for ESCR think that almost anything goes as long as something good emerges.

Exactly. We are talking about a physical (bodily) competition. A person (however they identify themselves) who has a male body, should not compete against other people who have female bodies. The type of body you are born with matters because we are talking about a competition of "bodies."

If this was chess club, no one would care. It is not chess club. It is athletics, where the single biggest determinate of how you will stack up to others is your body. It has nothing to do with musing about whether this person is "being born that way" or whether someone's feelings are hurt, or using the appropriate personal pronouns. All that stuff is just noise that distracts from the central issue. Namely, it is a problem that a person with a male body is competing in a physical competition against people with female bodies.

This issue is so simple. Maybe its not easy for some (boo-hoo, that's life), but it is simple.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree. I was disputing the original claim (by So Stupid) that this athlete is faking their gender in order to win races.

I'd like to think that if I were in this athlete's situation, I would continue to race against boys, or do something else that evens the physical playing field. And really, I think that is the most reasonable compromise. It may be obvious to us that a male body in the women's 100m will have an advantage, but I'm not going to assume that this 15 year old transgender child thinks the same way I do, and I'm not going to speculate on their motivations for their actions.

If the same kid walked into to school and acted like a monkey they would classify him as mentally ill, same goes for a boy who says he is a girl. No, you are not, reach down between your legs and you will find a penis, that indicates that you are a boy.

If they are publicly uncongenial or controversial it may jeopardize their future earning potential as an athlete.

High school girls are probably too afraid of internet retribution and rebuke to put themselves out there as openly against this kind of behavior; even if they don't like it.

Why are we not viewing this as men continuing to dominate women? Men not only have their division, but they have to take over the women's division as well? Is the glass ceiling not enough?

You apparently missed the part about BAND TOGETHER. Nothing will change until those mostly deeply impacted (females) raise cane.

You would think that he/she would at least dominant the girls events. Going into Monday's State Open Champs (all classes combined) he/she is ranked 12th in the 200 (best of 25.75) and 17th (12.67) in the 100.
