If the mentioned splits are correct he closed in around 52 sec.
25:49 vs 26:51:14.
Sounds about right given the fact that number 2 was 6 secs back
Isn't that 62?

No shit, it's 62 sec.
If you saw the race it was obvious there was no speed up on the last lap

Seriously who the hell are these people who actually finished the race? No one recognizable ended up even finishing?
Bizarre.
Demelash is a world junior champion (10K in 2012) and had PRs of 13:03 ,26:57 (both from 2012, but he ran 13:05 this year) and 59:49 (this March).
Tamirat Tola finished 5th at the World Half Marathon Champs in Cardiff this year, and 6th at World Cross last year. PRs of 26:57 (Pre, this year), 60:06, and 2:06:17.
And apparently Abadi Hadis is Abadi Embaye, who ran 13:02 earlier this year and 13:13 last year.
As for the DNFs ... Merga hasn't looked good this year (11th in Pre 10K, 8th in Shanghai 5K, and DNF in Stockholm more recently), nor has Alamriew (who seems to be declining every year now and was making his 10K debut).
Bekele dropping doesn't surprise me either; I figured his track days were over. I didn't see the race, but my guess is once he couldn't hang with the lead pack he dropped out. Remember he is only 2 months removed from a marathon, and was injured most of last year ... many people on here were being totally unrealistic about his current speed and 10K shape. His last track 10K was in 2013.
Jeilan is harder to explain, coming off 26:58 and 13:03 PRs. He doesn't race very often, so maybe he was worn down from Pre and the 5K in Stockholm 2 weeks ago. Also possible he simply had a bad day.

Maybe.
From what I could tell in the last few miles, the leaders were switching around and running very erratically.
So while the pace from kilometer to kilometer was roughly even - I think - there might have been constant mini surges and slow downs that threw off Jeilan, Bekele, Merga, Alamirew. Not sure what happened exactly.
I didn't see any of it but in that short video posted, I can see Jeilan was definitely in it at some point. Couldn't recognize Bekele though

Ok, I suspect that I was correct in thinking the hunched figure at 6-7K over 50m back was Jeilan

I think what gave people including myself hope Bekele could still do something was the fact he looked pretty good in London and the 10km great Manchester run a few weeks after it.
Not sure when he decided to enter this 10,000m as it sounded like he had no interest in running the 10,000m in Rio after not being named to the marathon team...so maybe he wasn't prepared (obviously)

Ah. Thanks for the info. I didn't realize some of those guys' HM prowess.
For the women, it looks like T. Dibaba was actually out kicked by Burka?

Same height and form but not sure.
Ok so wait just a second here. I want to point out something to the people who always defend the super slow sit and kicking that Americans do.
Note that this was a trials and look how fast the 10K final was. What's the excuse? These guys didn't sit and kick some super slow pace like we'll see a few days from now. I'm betting the 10K for the U.S. Oly Trials on the 1st finishes in not a second faster than 27:50 and perhaps even slower than that.
And ultimately, THIS is what those of us that complain about the slow sit and kicks are talking about. I can deal with a 26:40-26:50 10K with a nice kick at the end. That's a great race! What I cannot stand is the crap we're going to see in Eugene in both the 5K and 10K. Both is 100% for certain be taken out in a pedestrian and embarrassing jogging pace. Even with a "kick" the final times will be laughably slow. And yet LRC people will come on the boards and defend it.

Yeah, just watched again and could be him...looked "bulkier" than normal but who knows...video wasn't great quality
I am really curious to when he dropped out of the race
Do you even take what you say seriously?

example?
They can't just sit and kick because the team is composed of the guys with the fastest times in the season.

if so, he got utterly crushed into oblivion in cardiff by Kamwo who got tripped at start & ran murderous coupla minutes to catch up then crushed the field going away
he crushed this bum who now has run 26'50+ in tactical race

Kamwo ???

Well, there were pacers at this meet, which the US trials will not have. It's much easier to have a faster race when following a rabbit.
Also, the last lap was 62...not much of a kick.
Mmm Halie, who actually got to 40 AT LEAST legit running competitive. Kipchoge would be uper 30s 37-38, Bekele is 40 I could go on.
I think it's pretty obvious they are legit ages though so I'll stick with Kipchoge at 31, and Bekele 34.

Tron,
Here's another video of the Men's race. From this video, we can tell that Bekele ran for 19 minutes (18:32 in the video), but may have dropped out soon after. Bekele is back in 11th position in this video (before the last 2 green guys).
