Do you really think these guys come in half assed?

This is the worst part of track and road racing tv coverage, showing winner bent over for minutes as other are racing. Never ceases to piss me off, especially in Olympics and WCs when you want to see who got the other places. I realize here they are further back, but still frustrating.

I don't think the weather was ideal as you coudl see the flags whipping when kimetto was finishing.

Weather.com is reporting 9mph winds now.

Not me. I don't think that your criticism of Ritz is very fair. He obviously is in very good shape. He may well have believed that he was ready for 2:06. There is no guarantee that on race day you will be able to run what you thought you could.

Not a bad race for Ritz.

It has nothing to do with their training for effort, but they always talk about it

This is the most frustrating part of the sport. You invest in watching the race and you only see two guys cross the line. Nothing more boring than watching one guy walk around.

The difference is in the training. Mutai/Kipsang simulate 2:03 -2:04 pace (for almost the entire distance) in training whereas Tegenkamp is running 5:10 pace for half of his long "tempo" runs and then 4:50s the rest.

How the hell can you compete with guys running 4:42-3 miles for 26.2 miles with that kind of super conservative training? Our training methodologies have not caught up with the current racing scene.

Dang, 5th place at a major is certainly something to be proud of even if the time isn't great. Good for ritz.

maybe not the 2:06/2:07 as hoped but he just got gapped at the wrong time. need more people to run with
