Froning has a pretty solid grip on CrossFit. What is it, 2 titles and a 2nd place?
They run way faster than 5min for 1500m, just like Froning's 5k pr is actually 21:xx and I'm rounding down to be generous. A 4:30 1500m is on another planet compared to a 20-21min 5k. Not to mention the 400m. That's the one that is truly mind boggling. If you run a 400m in 60seconds, you are both slow and unfit. i doubt there are many people under a 6 minute mile that can't run well under 60sec 400m.
And why are you comparing them to high school girls? Can those fast high school runner do any of the other stuff that Froning can do? No.
I'm making a point that the worst event on a relative basis for most decathletes (1500m) is way better than Froning's worst event (anything involving running). I'm highlighting Froning's inability to run any distance. For practical matters, the man is immobile.
Froning weighs 200 lbs. High school girls weigh 95-110 pounds. His cardiovascular system might actually be significantly stronger and better than theirs.
But again who cares? His sport is not focused on running. So it's dumb to say he's not fit because some running specialists half his weight are faster than him. And if these decathlete's are so much better than him, why aren't they just easily hopping over to the cross fit championships and picking up half a million dollars or whatever the money is?
