Hey, do you guys actually know how the rankings are put together? It's D3 XC. Chill.

I personally don't care about rankings I just don't want us ( New England ) to appear weak it would be nice to get 5 bids at regionals.

Its just nice to have that buffer dbag
Williams should be ranked higher than they are, but luckily for them, the rankings don't matter.
Or some division restructuring...
Why would you want to weaken the division?
I was just pointing out that some of the regions are Large State School heavy. I think it's a little easier to recruit at schools that are cheep, easy to get into and have bigger athletic budgets.
Central Fan...
I ran for one of these big evil state schools with an 'exorbitant' athletic budget and we rode a yellow high school buses to many of our meets, including some of our conference meets, we were required to buy our own warm ups, we received $5 meal allowances for lunch... We were certainly the beneficiaries of a HUGE athletic budget as you alluded to!
Back on topic...can anybody touch North Central considering how they looked at the Ill State meet and at Oshkosh?

And none of those things mean anything re: division.
I also ran for an evil WI state school, we couldn't even fill our men’s roster limits! So much for recruiting advantages! We still managed a top ten national finish.
NCC looks unstoppable, but UW-Lax could pull an upset if they run up to their potential.
Not as it seems wrote:

Based on those results, no. However, there is still one month remaining until nationals, and lots can change between now and then. Someone might have unintentionally already peaked, someone might get hurt, H1N1 might knock a team out. That's why they run the race.
You couldn't fill your roster limit? At least your team had an opportunity to be good. I know a lot of (men) programs that are limited to 14 members or less. Then on the womens side they encourage as many as possible to come out.
Lets assume that swine flue does not overtake naperville (one girl already died)....how far out there is a sub-32 point finish?
I'd say 32 points is not going to happen considering teams like Cortland, Allegheny, and Lacrosse weren't in the oshkosh meet, and NCC scored 22 there. Add those teams to the mix, who will each have 2-3 that will break their top 5, in addition to the rest of the NCAA field of scoring teams and i doubt it will happen.
No way NCC is even close to 32 points. They are good but they could lose to both lax and cortland.
Here are my predictions for the women’s team race, along w/ reasoning:
1.Calvin-Strong front runner in Koster, very strong supporting cast including an AA and a nats steeple qualifier, super deep (their top 10 finished before WashU's #5 at Oshkosh, w/o Koster); at least a couple AA possibilities
2.WashU- Strong front runner in Surtees, great pack after that, including 3 1500m nats qualifiers; deep but not as deep as Calvin
3.Johns Hopkins-2 good front runners in Paulsen & Patel, good pack; at least 2 AA possibilities
4.Eau Claire- Easker not as strong of a front runner as some other teams, but an amazingly tight pack, including an AA steepler
5.St. Lawrence- Pavlus, Hulton, and Ludington very strong up front, falls off a little after that
6.MIT- Good front runner in Wentz, good pack
7.Williams- No real front runner, but a good pack, including a nats qualifier in the steeple
8.Middlebury- No front runner (out of their 5 meets this year, they’ve had 4 different women leading the team), but a good pack
Very off topic but I was reading the post above me, and he/she used fast steeplers as justification for probably running fast at cross nationals.
I know nothing about how much steeple translates in cross but how fast do you think a national qualifying steepler can run an 8k?
Throwing numbers around, assuming a guy steeple qualifer is approximately 9:15
How fast do you think he could go on avg 8k course?
Saw Johns Hopkins at Oberlin this past weekend. They are very solid. I do have to agree that I don't think they are strong enough to overtake Calvin, however. I think even if Koster isn't healthy (have heard she has battled injuries so far this season), they can still take the title. They are that deep.
As for the individual race, I now think it's going to be even more of a battle between Borner and Mitchell. I think if the Nationals course in Cleveland is like last year's (rolling hills, rougher grass) it definitely favors Borner, but if it's more of a golf course type terrain, it will favor Mitchell. Mitchell is almost unbeatable on golf courses - at least TRUE flat golf courses (Les Bolstad where Griak is held is a definite exception).
I think there are still several other individuals that could be in the hunt for the title, however. It's all about who can peak at the right time. Childs-Walker (Carleton), O'Grady (Carroll), Scherer (St. Norbert), Kraayenbrink (Wartburg), Johnson (Oberlin), Paulsen (Johns Hopkins)... all have already proven themselves at some point at the National level, so I have to believe they'll be ready when the time comes.
UW-Lacrosse's 1-3 are very solid but their 4-7 are weaker than NCC's. Calvin's #1 runner was behind NCC's #7 runner at Oshkosh...Cortland looks strong, but like everyone knows, you really cannot compare teams unless they have competed head to head. that being saidunless NCC getting sick, or injured, I don't see many teams staying with NCC's 1-7...I don't think they will do 32 points, but under 40 is quite possible...but like someone said, that's why we run the race...
i have coached big state school d3 and little liberal arts d3...enjoyed both, but it is not the same game at the big state school. at the state schools with 8000-10000 or more enrollment, kids do just fall out of the sky that are very competitive at this level.
it is very very hard for a tiny school enrolling 500 freshmen a year to amass the depth to compete with WIAC and SUNY schools. obviously it can be done. but take it from someone who has been on both sides of the fence- it is NOT a level playing field. SUNY and WIAC should move up to d2.

gj, and or raccoon eyes, I have had similar experiences. I ran and coached at a "big" state school (about 8,000 enrolled) and coached at a small liberal arts college (about 2000 enrolled).
However the similarities end there. Recruiting at the small liberal arts college was much easier. If anyone is making your team that you're not recruiting that just "fell out of the sky" from the student enrollment I would just say you've been extremely lucky. I've never had a walk on be able to run in the top 7 (around 26:mid) of any of my teams.
Maybe we've just had different experiences but I'd have to respectfully disagree with your POV. SUNY and WIAC dont have athletic scholarships so I think they should stay at DIII.
