You mean, Libya.
This is all about maintaining the petrodollar economic prowess and preventing a Chinese toehold in the Americas in a resource rich (way more than oil) country. But the fallout won’t be the same as Iraq or Libya. Venezuela shouldn’t fall into an all out Civil War. If anything, their prospects just got a lot brighter. I don’t think most of the oil infrastructure in Iraq or Libya was American either, only to be seized by those two countries.
But, there’s no telling what China’s and Russia’s next moves are…

The Mexican president has been pretty open about letting their cartels do whatever they want since she got elected. Mexico's cartels effect us far more than Venezuela's. We rely on mexico far more then Venezuela. So why not attack Mexico? Probably because that would actually risk US citizens lives. So instead let's blame all issues related to drugs and cartels and gangs on Venezuela despite almost all of the above being either internal or Mexican because Venezuela is defenseless since 2016. War with any central or South American country has never ended well for the USA except for Mexican/American war and Panama. This will not end well for the US and probably even worse for Venezuela. It will create a power vacuum that will end like Iraq post gulf war or Afghanistan post US occupation.
Probably the biggest upside to Trump was an actual track record of less military abroad in war zones... Not anymore. He is looking a lot like a bush or Obama in that regard with none of the upsides of Bush or Obama
This is above all else a projection of American power on this hemisphere.

In any event, the below article fascinated me. Venezuela spends billions on Russian defense systems and they get blown to bits in seconds? Of course the Kremlin views this as a huge loss. This was a 2025 extension of the Monroe doctrine (not addressing the policy, simply stating an observation).
Note the article has a pro US bias and some speculation but it is hard to escape the conclusion that the air defense systems utterly failed.

Not emotional about these matters. Venezuela buys two systems worth billions over which the Kremlin’s arms merchants made significant representations. The systems didn’t work. Now the speculative part is why they failed. The systems likely require skilled operators- typically in our paradigm experienced NGO’s - not easy to develop. But Russia has sold these systems all over the world and if they don’t work you can the Pentagon is cheering this a projection of American power. Again. This is the reality.

In the next election I am hoping that America First voters who are unhappy with Trump and the Bernie left can unite and get a decent person in office.

Bernie left isn’t happening any time soon. He tried twice and his party squished him down against the will of its people; he’s too old now. Mamdani can’t be president. OAC doesn’t have a chance just yet. There isn’t anyone on the right who has the balls to present themselves as a socialist (that isn’t a political panacea anyway, but that’s a different argument).

An interesting point, no matter how you feel about this, the US captured Maduro in 8 hours. While Russia hasn't been able to get within sniffing distance of Zelenskyy in 4 years. Lol.
